High school learning development benefits leading to higher education:
Hurrying children from one subject to another. Time limited chalkboard copying fails to allow students to take the time to comprehend what they're reading. Because test questions are choice reminder prompts A to F test question selections, answers are provided, students need only select the correct answer. To my knowledge answers often required are: dates; names; places names, simple single word idea choices. During mid and end school year testing, even though required preparing for tests, even though reading materials were thought provoking, students often have many tests of many subjects happening at the same round about time. Little time can be devoted to carefully comprehending study readings. Student test unspoken requirements need only have students scanning reading material remembering names and dates.
Entering advanced learning colleges and universities have learners reading behavioural conditioned in quick scanning reading material looking for dates; names and place names.
My point being that many students whom have been reading without comprehending reading materials will find reading in order to comprehend complex studying difficult.
My assumption being that reading future professional career earning reading material can be loaded up with paragraphs of useless information, having very few worthwhile memorising features devoted towards actual worthwhile learning, educator text book providers spinning out meaningless learning subjects till the cows come home, that being that the cows never come home. Unsuspecting learners unable to realise much of what's being read often fails to come to a worthwhile memorable conclusion.
In the end many supposedly highly educated graduates will end up in a specialised profession, using limited knowledge skills to perform employment tasks.
A GP doctor may learn the names all human body parts and still be a terrible doctor.
An assumption that high school or middle school prepares students for higher education could well be a myth.

"My assumption being that reading future professional career earning reading material can be loaded up with paragraphs of useless information..." as in the first three paragraphs of this discussion.

So what do you propose? I don't see you offering a solution for your perceived problem, so what's your point?

How did we all survive and manage to get through our educations up to now?

Nice one Poirot (-:

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry you have gained so little from your education so far. Those of us who did, and who have continued to learn throughout our lives, may scoff at your problems, but like many others, we tried to concentrate, to understand, to sort out the trivial from the important, to go back again and again and learn more, to be able to see connections and processes and underlying principles.

Don't give up yet, Steve, it 's worth the effort !

I know a man who believes he has a good education. the man suffers from mental depression and hasn't worked for 20 years. If he were to read something I wrote he would only care about the spelling, ignoring any meaningful inspiring ideas. By adding a spelling mistake we see what education achieved. He also stated that formal education was only good for filling out forms. A retired headmaster stated to me "education doesn't teach gramma" Many students end up driving trucks and or similar work, become alcoholics, addicted to drugs. Minimum of 12 years of education and say 10% of the population actually get to use some of it in the work place. Society is surrounded by electricity while education likes Shakespeare. Having a high graded formal education is nothing to be proud of. Computers have spell checkers making education almost pointless.

Hi Steve,

You don't need to be anywhere near so passive about learning - it doesn't have to stop at the end of schooling. Don't confuse the two. I'm pretty sure I'll be learning until the day I drop - the world is just too fascinating to stop. History, languages, music, land law, I'll never learn everything about those wonderful aspects of humanity, but I'll never stop trying.

Best of luck,

Joe
