I just glanced at photos of some of the ladies competing in the "fashions on the field", at the Caulfield Cup carnival.

I must say in this lot the clothes looked great, not as far out as you often see.

They must have cost heaps, probably more than many of the ladies, or their blokes, could actually afford.

You know, after paying for those expensive fashions, most of the poor dears did not have enough left to buy stockings.

Hope they have the bus fare home.

You would be surprised Has been. The Thrift Shops make a fortune coming up to Big Race days. A few celebrities do spend a fortune or are more likely sponsored by "Name" fashion houses.

Very few girls wear stocking nowadays, it's a dying fashion in Australia.

From my wife. It's too hot in Summer & baggy crutches are the worst, besides, when the Champagne flows so do the waterworks. Trying to get stocking down & up again when your full of Champagne is a pain.

Well, I wear my stockings every day, in fact I don't feel dressed without them.
I normally stick to one brand only but have been known to opportunistically buy at the Op shops when some suitable ones pop up.

Thanks for that Jayb, & here I was thinking it was because they like the sluty/sexy look of no stockings.

I know I can't stand bare feet in shoes, & my lady wears those little below knee stockings under long dresses or slacks, for the same reason. I guess these ladies are prepared to pay the price of discomfort for "the look".

Even so I prefer my picture, & feeling sorry for them.

I can't speak for the rest of Australia but coming from North Queensland the only girls that wear stockings would be the Corporate ones & even then very few. I have noticed here in Sth. East Queensland very few women wear them either, day to day. I suppose in a few professions they are mandatory. Poor buggars. Ties, what are ties? Not even for Weddings or Funerals.

I have just been informed by my wife that her total cost for her Women's Melbourne Cup Day is $38 Dollars, Fascinator $10, $Shoes $15 & Dress $13. All from Vinnie's & she looks like a million Dollars. Oh, from the Warehouse, Bra & Bombay Bloomers for SFA, but no stockings. ;-)

Gee I'm really with it these days, I had to Google it to find out what the hell a fascinator was, when it was at home.

Na, that won't wash Jayb, in these days of air conditioned cars, busses, trains, shops & offices, it has nothing to do with the heat, it is just they are too clumsy today, not to put a hole, [do they still get ladders], in them, or too miserable to pay for a bit of class.

Or could it be the fashion set by these female singers, who wear so little on stage, a pair of tights would double their wardrobe bill?

I don't have that problem. I don't wear 'em. ;-)

Just think of the money you could save, not being a slave to Fashion.

How's that song go, I'll change it a bit, with apologies to The Kinks

They seek her here, they seek her there,
Her clothes are loud, but never square.
It will make or break her so she's got to buy the best,
'Cause she's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Jayb,

I don't have much choice I'm told that I've got to wear them or there will be dire consequences!

My wife brought this to my attention. She watches all the X Factor & dancing shows. She said that even Mylie wears a sort of flesh coloured shear body stocking. If you look carefully. Apparently that's how they get away with it, in America. It's very hard to see but it's there.

Heh, heh, a few of you like to live dangerously.

Some of the Grrls will be along directly to set you right. -It is only they, The Womyn, who can have an opinion on women and ogle them too!

Imagine several angry and self-righteous NT water buffalo about to thunder in and trample you to death.

Lol!, otb....

Don't hold yer breath.

We ladies prefer to think of a thread like this as a kind of OLO creche.....somewhere where you boys can amuse yourselves - and not bother us while we get on with more important things.

Have fun!

Ah Ha! You're a Dragon Lady at Woolworths, ay!

For those that don't know. "Dragon Lady" is the unofficial, but accepted, title of the Front End Supervisor in a Supermarket.

Not at all Jayb, I'm an old digger with DVT problems otherwise I wouldn't wear the bloody support stockings.

Fortunately I don't have to wear the thigh length ones any more, they are really hot and the last that I had were supposed to be self supporting (no belt needed) but they'd creep down and one would have to find a toilet so as to get sufficient privacy to pull them up.
I ended up getting a ladies suspender belt, after a lot of looking (Vinnies came to the rescue) as they aren't available in ladies shops anymore and that cured the problem and I've put the belt carefully away in case I ever need to wear the longuns again.

I applaud all women who don't wear stockings, they have my full support (belt and all!!),

Dragon lady is the name given to all female supervisors, the first job I ever had was in a smallgoods factory,a woman named Cathy was the "Dragon Lady" in charge of the Cryovac machines.
My job was to dip the sealed packages in boiling water to shrink the plastic and then stack them in a crate and by god if I didn't keep up the "Dragon Lady" who was this tiny little girl with a big 80's poodle perm would be right onto me.
