im writing this for a mate
who has lost heart

kevin....just announced..a long term study..
to maybe move..the navy off garden..island..to make way for the cruise industry/tourism..etc..WHAT A HUGE DEVELOPMENT*..

but that upsets the plan..of mice and men..because the nsw premier..first proposed..it..is on auto-deney..

as i speak..some mate of barry o'ferral..,
refers to it..as a brain snap..

it sounds like basic common sense..but why wait..boats float..instantly..about time the navy practiced dock making

or good port access[hint/hint]

but barry..sounds like he wants his cake..and the navy too
and no doudt too..NO FURTHER CASINO"S to compete with..*murdoc junior

anyhow tell me im wrong
it makes sense to me..its seems visionary

OUG there are some practical reasons as to why we should keep Sydney. One glaring issue for the navy is the tidal movements up North which have suitable sites only accessible to larger vessels twice a day, on high tides.

Kev has realized that NSW is lost to him (especially after his western suburbs visits last week)….not a friend in sight for Kev, so it’s stuff NSW and prop up Qld.

The talk around the governments back bench is that Kev is going to announce a moon landing for Australia by 2020….I believe that came from one of his two Team Obama spin doctor imports.

sog..i know..its a thought bubble
the timing alone indicates..that..

but brissie..or as far as rocky..or as low down as say byron bay..
its only a thought..to have a paper..years hence..

BUT..i say why not now

RUPERTs SON..is on the wrong side..of the coat hanger
[big boats never could dock at his..new quangocash machine

he only got his 2 de cassino deal..
signed sealed recently..[once the libs got it]

just like dad gets his big payoff..
when tony gets in and sells him the nbn

never the less..it makes sense..to move..plus free up some great real estate..for well planed development..plus do..a proper welcoming place for tourists..who knows

i just saw the poli tricks..and thought great idea to develop
but why wait..the boats could ship[out]..into a new industry

think how much industry could clean up on..just selling their sydney land value..then build new..to create other industry benefit..plus a sea change..for our service people

win/win
plus the son's deeds..like his father..dont payoff
crime musnt pay..it was all done..with..such great haste
we just know it was done by a wink..and a nod

..like tony selling nbn
to fox...surely will be gifted away too./.just watch
its just basic dial m stuff/plus a bit of poli-tricks 101

criminals mustnot..be seen to profit..from crime..nor collusion/mates rates

How typical of this clown, have a thought bubble, & go off not even quarter cocked.

To start with there are thousands of sailors with homes families, kids in schools, partners with jobs, all in Sydney, because that is the fleet base.

Then we have probably a similar number of support workers, employed by civilian contractors who are critical to the navy. They are not full time, & many less than quarter time on navy jobs, so would not relocate.

Then the infrastructure, built & developed over decades. Compared to this Brisbane is just a hick town, with a crummy little muddy river.

Yes there are good reasons to have the navy "up north", as it would be closer to any threat, but it is only a days steaming to Brisbane, so unless they go somewhere like Townsville, not much is saved.

My son is in the navy, & as a Queenslander he would love it. He would probably stay in for longer, but most would just say "stuff them" & move on. The navy would loose the best of it's hard to come by technical people, & we would be back to having half the fleet tied to a wharf due to lack of trained crew.

This highlights the stupidity of political decisions. Build subs in Adelaide, rather than where they are going to be based. Straight vote buying.

Fit out the new amphibious warfare ships in Port Phillip bay, rather than where they are going to be base. All the technical support that should be available from the builders so far away as to be useless.

Thank god our prospective enemies have even more payola & corruption going on in their defense procurement & basing, it is all that saves us.

There wasn't any thinking involved. Just a blathering of an incompetent panic merchant who is hoping that voters are as dumb now as they were six years ago. Hopefully their numbers have dwindled.

Isn't it a shame the premier of NSW gets his breif from the daily news paper.

How typical of Rudd, obviously his speech a few months back, where he said he had learned his lesson and would consult all involved was just another lie.

What a joke this guy is.

Given the timeframe for his plan, 2030, is Rudd suggesting that the threat from illegals is going to be here until 2030, more importantly, is it not important until then.

The man is desperate to secure votes in QLD and will go to any lengths to do so.

As if he hadn't done enough damage in NSW with his air port comment, he has simply taken one foot out of his mouth to make room for the other.

All facets of our Military are always under review and should never become a political tool or football.
Both sides of politics play this game and it is a bloody disgrace that they get away with it.
The country needs top class management not muppets pretending they know something about our military requirements. Let them have the odd photo shoot but that's all.
Rudd is dreadful but the replacement does not look a lot better.
What to do on election day is the question. I might just go fishing. It would have to be a better choice than voting for Rudbot.

We need a high class, big hit navel force in the North probably in Cairns. Townsville already has a army base and Darwin an air force base.
Never the less the idea of moving Garden Island out only comes from the revenue achievable from the sale idea. Helps bring the budget back to square one thing.
can anyone imagine what the place is worth?

garden island lies to the left
scrolling down..looks like million dollar homes
so as housing blocks..would be worth....according to its land area..

in its present state..but it has position..position..position..
plus immense historic value..each tiny block would be worth multiples in millions..id say at a guess..under a billion..to buy!

but leased..it could pay for itself..
[1 billion leased..like an airport type lease..every 5 years
..in the original time frame/plan....2030..do the math..it pays for itself

much like tonies sceme/scam..
collecting two years of..tax from the 3000big business..before paying out a single cent

but next door i see shell[an industrial zone?

thats worth billions..
if the tourists came via that door[and a casino..or two..or a special..tax zone..like allowed via treaty

build it they will come
build it via infrastructure bond./..[the position/position/position,..underwriting the surety....only to super funds

Ome would assume thatif we needed to defend the top end, that any pending attack would come from the likes of Indonesia, so, wouldn't it make sense to have our navy based in either Darwin, or Broom.

Just a thought!

In any case, this is simply a desperate move from Rudd, as he is loosing badly.

It's just a shame more emphasis hasn't been placed on the timing of this thought bubble, that being, 2030, some 23 years away.

Forgetting party politics at the moment. Is there a benefit in moving the Navy north? I am not a defence expert so cannot put forward an informed opinion.

However I wonder if it has more to do with securing votes in some of the shakier QLD seats than to do with defence. Or more likely, after discussions with Obama, the US has dictated that it be so. If it is the latter then no doubt Tony Abbott and the Libs will follow suit.

I know nothing about Oz Navy but wouldn't it be better to have the Navy located closer to any prospective enemy like Indonesia and China?
Wouldn't it be better near Darwin or Brisbane or Broom or even Perth? I think Sydney is to far away from any current thret like Indonesia and any other enemy countrys like China.

Misanthrope none of our northern ports are really suitable for a navy base. All of the Queensland ports have long dredged channels to get into or out of the port. These are many miles, not just a short distance. Nothing is more vulnerable than a ship restricted to a narrow channel if under attack. They are a sitting duck for air attack.

This is not hearsay, I am an ex navy pilot.

Even Brisbane does not have anything like the facilities to service & support modern ships, nor the industrial skill base to return a damaged ship quickly to service. This is even worse for other Qld ports & for Darwin.

Almost as important is the restriction inside the Reef, where dispersal options are very limited, making ships movements too easily predictable. It is much more important to be unpredictable than close to your enemy.

As a southern Queenslander, with a son in the navy, I would love to have him nearer to home, but I would rather have him on a ship that was highly useful, rather than highly vulnerable.

Just to give a RAAF example, when there was a bit of an emergency some years ago the first thing we did was get every asset to the very South of Australia.

Ships would be the same, can't afford to lose them in the first few hours.

Perhaps Kevin needs the entire navy as taxi cabs for the boat people?

One under god you are thinking from a false assumption. Oz is only likely to be hard to hold, if it has a population.

What ever gives you the idea that any likely invader of Oz would be interested in maintaining the present population?

The only people likely to invade Oz, [other than middle eastern Muslims, who have found a different way], will have no use what so ever for the existing population. In fact it would be a hindrance, even if totally cowered.

Such an invading force would be likely to leave such a small percentage of the population alive in place, as to be hardly worth counting.

Another False Flag Operation, history repeating itself
http://rinf.com/alt-news/breaking-news/pretext-to-wage-war-on-syria-another-false-flag-operation-history-repeating-itself/63564/

The United States, United Kingdom, France and their allies backed up by the Western media was quick to blame,..without any investigation or proof, the Syrian government..of carrying out this attack. Warning that a red line had been crossed and that military action was on the table to “punish the Syrian government”.

SYRIA demandsd investigation

The Syrian government is demanding that the United Nations immediately investigate three alleged chemical attacks carried out by rebel groups on the outskirts of Damascus last week, Syria’s envoy to the UN said.

Ambassador Bashar Jaafari said he had requested UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that the team of experts currently in Damascus investigating an alleged use of chemical weapons last week also investigate these other attacks.

The attacks took place on August 22, 24 and 25 in Jobar, Sahnaya, and al-Bahariya, Bashar Jaafari told journalists Wednesday. The “militants” used toxic chemical gas against the Syrian army,

It is more than 10 years since Parliament last voted on whether or not to go to war. This was on March 18 2003, when a stirring speech by Tony Blair convinced many sceptical MPs of the case for military action against Iraq.

But Mr Blair’s claim that Britain possessed “extensive, detailed and authoritative” evidence concerning Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction turned out to be nonsense

what the rush..armogeddon..begins when YOU chose to begin..*it
why the rush?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10271248/The-rush-to-judgment-on-Syria-is-a-catastrophic-and-deadly-error.html

Tomorrow afternoon will be Mr Cameron’s equivalent of that Blair speech. Although he is not seeking approval for sending in troops, that does not lower the stakes.
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/commentators/ten-years-on-the-shadow-of-the-iraq-war-looms-large-over-all-the-party-leaders-8788565.html

Many of the bright, independent-minded bunch of 147 Conservative MPs who entered Parliament in 2010 remain to be convinced about the need for any intervention in Syria.

As one put it: “We need to see the proof that the Assad regime was responsible. It is not our war. It’s a case of ‘once bitten, twice shy’ after Iraq.”

Back from the brink:
Prime Minister David Cameron
forced to retreat over military action in Syria

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/back-from-the-brink-prime-minister-david-cameron-forced-to-retreat-over-military-action-in-syria-8788612.html

it demanded six concessions as the price of supporting him tomorrow night – including a UN Security Council vote on the inspectors’ report; a further report to the Commons

and a second vote before Britain takes part in any military action; “compelling evidence” that the Assad regime was responsible for last week’s attack and a “clear basis in international law” for intervention.

US war on Syria not constitutional
http://rinf.com/alt-news/breaking-news/us-war-on-syria-not-constitutional/63820/

A political analyst says the question revolving around possible US military intervention in Syria is whether the president of the United States thinks that he needs to œabide by our constitution” or not.

not yet game over
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/28/syria-crisis-un-strike-sanction-civilians

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2013/08/obama-to-the-newshour-xxxx.html

Of course, the wild card here is still Israel; and seeing support of a military intervention crumble around the world, it may still do something nasty (i.e., a false flag somewhere) to get things in motion.
