As far as I know the idea that migrants are predominantly young and will save us from having to support our parents out of our own pocket is yet another myth propagated by the vested interests,to the best of my knowledge the demographic profile of migrants is about the same as the native born population.

Of course I agree with you about population and sustainability. Reducing population growth is the main factor heading toward sustainability.

However we are up against it while ever the two major parties have high immigration policies. Frankly I do not see chance of change in my lifetime, but it does not hurt to keep reminding people of this when we get a chance.

So keep on keeping on. I fear it will be very late but one day the penny will drop.

Both parties will go for more population because they are starting to
think that it is the only way to get growth.
However we are on the cuspse of the end of growth.
Australia is lagging most other countries in reaching that historic mark.
However it is inevitable we will reach zero as energy becomes more
expensive and difficult to produce with its net energy depletion.
If you do not understand the implications of net energy look it up
if your heart will stand the shock.
As a result there will be no growth to support an increased population.
What do you think that, no growth, no infrastructure building
and doubling the population will have on us ?
