Say No to crime against women in India:
pkennett,
We could kill several birds with one stone if we just said no to all crime everywhere ! Start with knocking stupidity on the head. We could start with demanding some intelligence & integrity from those who tell us what to do all the time. Bad things happen when good people do nothing !

Thanks for trying.
And for refocusing on a new truth.
The net has given us a way of seeing our views get aired.
I a refugee from face book, never been there, and other such sites had this in my mail box and was only too happy to sign.
Unfortunately some can not get their heads around this or most issues.
A story about the contents of this young lady,s room, in this mornings press is very sad to read.

The system could be so much simpler if the following was done.

1 The senates were abolished,

2 A single 4 yearly election elected representatives from electorates around the country, Collectively they made up representatives for both the commonwealth and states,

3 Legislation that was common to all states such as safety, education, etc were passed at a federal level, and separate ammendments that were applicable only to particular states could be passed at separate sittings.

4 All separate state departments budgets would be amalgamated into one, and separate state departments would be for administration only.

5 Local government would be concentrated and given more powers. All cities and towns would have one mayor and one set of councillors, as well as one set of rates and taxes.

We could easily reduce the number of duplicated pen pushers with their noses in the trough, and actually spend the money on services and infrastructure.

Been waiting for this, sinister chuckle, you got it wrong SM!
I just answered that same post in another thread.
Well let you off this time, we are all getting old.
But that last post? bit embarrassed ?
Seems to me you by your words have no regard for rape victims in India?
And that shot at environmentalists?
Leave some wriggle room old chap.
Obama included Climate change in his action plan this morning.
I proudly watched it live.
After all he currently is the best leader in the world.
And Americas best in the last 3 decades.
Leave a way out, by election time under Turnbull your side will be a supporter too.

Signing of petitions by individuals to foreign governments do little or nothing to change the situation. Concern over rape victims and general abuse of women in India might be better expressed by requesting the government of Australia to stop uranium sales and other commercial interchanges with India until India takes meaningful action in this area. Such a request will probably also be ignored, but it would be a request to an entity that has power to take action to induce change in India.

Shadow Minister's post on the subject is funny and true.

Belly,

I am irritated with myself. I usually write my posts in Word to check spelling and grammar, and occassionally paste it in the wrong thread.

As for the petition, while I fully sympathise with rape victims in India, and am concerned with the environment, I am sick to the back teeth with meaningless gestures especially in politics when it costs affects me and achieves nothing.

A petition from rich white countries to India is at best going to be ignored, and at worst considered an interference by sanctimonious finger waggers, about which developing countries are particularly sensitive.

The carbon tax is the worst case of gesture politics that comes to mind. With a science and economic background, I acknowledge the effect of CHG gasses on the climate, and that a carbon price is an efficient mechanism for changing behaviour. However, this only works if our trading partner do something similar. (Which Labor's modelling assumes) Without complimentary action, there is zero effect on emissions, and jobs are exported.

bios thank you!
SM and another overlook the power of the net.
And by avoiding finding the truth, leave comment to the very left.
I signed it else ware.
Got to send a short signed message to the minister in that country.
Mild not heated I expressed concern and reminded him the world was appalled.
The fact is on line polls and messages like this are not new and not wasted.
IF we are not concerned enough to take part we should be ashamed of our selves.

And what about rape against men? Is that ok?

How about including rape against everyone in the petition, or is that just too politically incorrect?

Sounds like a typical leftie ploy. They take advantage of victims, to advance their own political agendas. Something that Julia and people like her would do.
