I have just heard that the Labour has caved in to the rich mining owners buy allowing 1,700 migrantes on some type of visa to work in WA mines. This is just the start and more will be on the way.

Gee, imagine that, Australia is letting in skilled migrants ... oh my god how shocking. We all know Australia has NEVER let migrants in. We're NOT a nation of migrants, everybody here was born here ... and their parents and their grandparents etc.

Who's responsible for letting in these evil 1,700 migrants? They're all terrorists I bet.

And guess what? These 1,700 terrorists are going to take all those jobs from the hundreds of thousands of unemployed Aussies who are currently lining up and begging for those jobs. Yes, the mine fields have to fight off the job applicants evey day, thousands of them.

I agree with the opening poster; why is the government so anti worker? We all know our lowest unemployment percentage in the first world, is just a conspiracy by Peter Slipper and Craig Thomson.

Oh my god, Australia is doomed. Stop the boats, stop the aeroplanes, stop Julia, stop the communist takeover, stop the terrorist migrants ... and god bless the Pope, he'll save us.

Not every statement has merit, it is a FACT we do not have enough skilled workers here.
457 visa holders have been coming for years under ALL forms of government.
John Howard over saw the near death of training skilled workers.
Labor has improved this.
In South Australia, while Howard was in power, the last Vs President of the USA had a company he remains closely linked to employing unskilled 457 holders working 12 hour days for $240 a week this no longer takes place.

I actually give Kudos to Bowen for applying government policy without feeling the need to consult the unions and Juliar for clarification, whether a backflip is required, at every step.

I see in the news there is discussion as to whether Juliar will be asked to step down.

you can say what you like about whether we need them or not, but this is just a further example of our growign reliance on mining, China and little else.

Lets see wht Aust lies 10 years down the track based on recent trends.

Maybe we will have 50% foreign dosctors by then, maybe we will have 500,000 teriary foreign students, maybe we wil have a kangaroo trade to Asia, maybe the majority of miners will be from China.

And now the rich Chinese are coming with open arms, and $5 milion each, maybe we can get 10% of the million of them to buy houses and help keep house prices high to boost govt revenue.

All of this will help keep revenue high, but i doubt if it is going to prevent more misery for ordinary Austs.

As for Labor, pleaes go. As far as i am concerned, it will be a long time before i vote again for a party that raved on so much about Australia not becoming a quarry for Asia, but in the end was invited them over by the thousands.

I think the times will suit the Coalition for a number of reasons,at least I hope.

Hello 50startingagain.

I’ve started a new thread on the same subject. Sorry, didn’t mean to duplicate yours. I hadn’t noticed your thread last night when I submitted it. Silly me for not checking properly first.

.

1700 foreign workers. I couldn’t be more disgusted by this development. And yes I’m sure it is just the start of a new horrible trend.

On list of Labor Lemons.

Labor promised trade training centres 2650

Operational 70

Sounds a bit like the super GP medical clinics that never came about.

Labor big on promises, delivery poor.

"I want Australians in Australian jobs, don't give away "our" jobs to migrants, it's "our" country, and we'll run it the way "we" want" ..... is code for "Bring back the White Australia Policy. God bless Fortress Australia".

Yep, these Fortress Australia supporters are still living in the 1800s.

<< And then Gillard said she for Australian jobs What a joke.? >>

50startingagain, I share your cynicism, but on the parallel thread on this subject I have been assured that what Gillard has asserted today is true –

< no Australian worker will miss out on a job as a result of the Federal Government's decision to allow mining magnate Gina Rinehart to import more than 1700 workers for an iron ore project in Western Australia >

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/no-aussie-job-will-go-overseas-insists-gillard-20120526-1zbeg.html

So I’m just wondering why you doubt this or think that Gillard is not really for Australian jobs?

Labor are finished. It won't be long when we will see the end of this once great party.Jack Lang was the last great Labor person who stood up to powerful corporate interests.

The present incumbants care not for the party or the Aust people.Time to move on.

Move on to what, Arjay?

We need to move on from Gillard, but not to Abbott. Hell no!

Let's move on to Labor under Carr and Thomson (Kelvin Thomson, that is).

This is what Kelvin Thomson had to say today regarding Gina’s 1700 workers and Enterprise Migration Agreements: http://youtu.be/tPL31VlSGXo
