Belly you and Solar want pristine, the government want pristine, hell everybody wants pristine, so what is done, nothing. The polluters have been let off the hook when it comes to earnestly seeking and employing technologies at whatever cost that minimize pollution. We the consumers have been groomed to accept that WE are the polluting criminals; we will pay a price, in our case the Carbon tax. Does industry clean up its act, no; they simply invest in Carbon sink pools with mostly our money. You have to know who your enemy is, in this case it is any green charter submitted by the U.N. or the greens movement, the ones who have not got one protester on any of the coal seam gas abominations.

Belly, I think you will find our oceans and seas are cleaner now than they were twenty years ago.

Or at the very least, they would be in far worse shape had we not curbed our rate of polution in the past decade or two.

As a whole, we don't litter as much, nor do we just chop down trees or clear forests for th sake of it.

In fact, I was only watching a coco on cardboard today and for every plantation tree they harvest, they plant two new ones.

As for petrol prices, thirty odd years ago petrol was about 20c Lt and a wage was about $200 pe week.

Today petrol is $1.50+ and that wage is about $900.

On this scale petrol should only be around 90c.

So what price is to high?

Put some jam on it. The cost of fuel is too high when you leave the car at home and walk. Or trade in the 4wd for a real car, at 12k/lt.
Think sustainability, cut your operating costs, grow vegies, eat road kill. Things are bound to get tougher before the rest of the world pulls out of the excrement.
