Brownillard Island seems to be an ideal place to pilot such policies as the electorate there seem to be generally supportive.
Wind farm and other renewable energy schemes could be restricted to Brownillard Island until such times as they can convince the rest of Australia that we can afford the capital investment, the increased tariffs, they actually work, do cut carbon and do create green jobs.
The CO2 tax should likewise be implemented there. Whilst significant economic advantage would be given to Brownillard Island, as described by Greg Combet and Ross Garnaut, most mainlanders would seem to be happy for these “opportunities” to be tested off shore.
The NBN offers huge economic advantages and should be rolled out exclusively to assist the Brownillardians along the lines promised by Greg Combet.
Detention centers should be expanded on Brownillard and all the costs currently incurred or funds paid to our “Regional Solution” partners can be paid to Brownillardians. The threat of being sent to Hobart should be enough to break the people smugglers “business model”.
The Intervention plans can be used to create huge revenues and local employment by building new communities on land they used to own or directly on resources rich land on Brownillard Island, thus creating a source of income to reduce the costs of intervention.
By implementing the mining tax in Brownillard Island, we can prove the benefits of a mining tax by verifying the revenues and effects on the mining industry. Lara Giddings has already signaled her readiness by beating Bartlett to a hike in mining royalties.
This would make the redistribution of GST much simpler as Brownillard Island will boost its economic position and require fewer subsidies from mainland States.
We know this because? Can someone help me out with this bit?
