Dear Belly,
I don't know a thing about this topic so I can't comment. But talking about toads... My husband bought me a soft toy recently for our wedding anniversary) - it's a large musical frog with a rose stuck in its teeth and when you press its tummy - music belches out of it ( the tango - "La Comprasita"). Gross! But it was well intended - what else can I say - except "Thank You - how sweet!" (smile). Posted by Lexi, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 12:28:47 PM

Hasbeen knows Lexi, so do I.
See a long time ago in my game the National Rugby League a Brilliant Queenslander thought of a new way to beat NSW. We once won by tens of points,by playing Queenslanders in our team on the basis that they played in NSW. Now called state of origin its being played in a fever like state. Hard tough men who play side by side in club foot ball hurting one another. At the start, not being funny just true,Queensland had some all time great players, they always have, but of more importance they had total ownership of the grasshopper, the referee! For some time Queensland in an act of sheer guts and brilliance would win in the very last minute, once at the hands of my much loved club Capitan. For 5 years QLD,armed with the services of a brilliant ,rightfully NSW player they stole from us . In truth the event is theirs we NSW Welshmen sometimes see more time and effort being spent on enjoying the pleasures of QLD and its brewery's. Pain and all we play tonight, tomorrow results known, experts will appear, both states political leaders each year bet on the out come. And for 5 years the northern, cane toads, flag has flown from the Sydney Harbor bridge. We Cockroach's, want an end to this, a decade long one. Mud blood and a lot more tonight as we play in Sydney. 'I don't know a thing about this topic so I can't comment.'
If only. Are you that bored or lonely that you must comment anyway? Back on topic, it just matters more to QLD. Like Ashes contests matter more to Australia than England. QLD have a far superior team on paper currently to boot. The weather could even things out, but the ref is much more important. In the wet, bigger guys get heaver legs and it's harder for bigger guys to cover a light stepping smaller player, but field position becomes all important too and QLD has a greater number and more skilful tactical kickers and a larger pack that breaks the line more easily. NSW, being unable to compete with size and quality in Props, have opted for mobility. This will only work if the ref decides to enforce fast play-the-balls, as is rumoured the case, but that could just be QLD siege mentality psychology. The Queenslanders, even when unbackable favourites, always try to find an angle to designate themselves underdogs. Kind of like middle class welfare receiving 'battlers'. Dear Houellebecq,
Am I that bored or lonely that I have to comment anyway? That's a very meaty question and I'd like to give it a very meaty answer - baloney! Posted by Lexi, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 6:37:48 PM

The game is my passion, not far from the worst of the floods here.
Tipped 78mm out this morning, 102 this afternoon, and about 30 in there again. 5 days of rain, even my solar battery's are dead flat. But I am as bright and hopeful as a kid at Christmas. Hollie understands our game, just maybe in a dry night NSW backs would have given us the edge. NSW forwards have a bit to prove, late injury's and team changes I am very hopefully but the mud will be a big thing. Our coach has rightfully highlighted our need for pride. Hot coffee hot football, and soon. Posted by Belly, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 6:46:31 PM

Bellies:) Any idiot can play the game. But its how you play the game that makes all the difference. Cane toads are really not that good when it comes to the rules of the game:) but the blues are very underestimated and should anyone approach with some-what dodgy intentions, all the front-row forwards in the world wont help you:)
New south 12 road-kill 8.......at 9.28pm. LEA Posted by Quantumleap, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 9:29:28 PM

Ah well. Makes the series more interesting. It's funny, though. Here in QLD, we live by the belief that NSW owns the referees (as well as the commentators). Down in NSW, it appears that they think the opposite. Sometimes I think it's more likely that the referee is some poor hapless sucker who is given the opportunity to fall on his own sword three times a year. No matter who wins, it always seems to be the referee's doing!

Get your thoughts together before posting QL until then I continue to ignore you.
Well yes, we have never had any doubts that refs are biased toward you blokes. A good game result was best team won, English is a NSW player but you can have him. I love the game live it , but surely no Queenslander did not know the grasshopper was as bent as they come. NSW will never have the need to win of you blokes. That simple, its a dislike that breaths on us and we seem, as of yet , to not return it. However the task is massive, in my view we should have won the first. But winning up there? a task that will take guts. Such is the difference Queensland will be planing every second fighting this game in advance till the very day. I tip NSW and thank our best coach in ten years for our revival, but silly talk of cheating will not do it. Blood guts and heaps of it will. good game both sides. This link tells AFL players what the fuss is all about. And may upset some QLD supporters, remember how ever just what has been said, in the name of sport,in your Medea. Roy Masters is a football brain. A former coach of many teams including Western Suburbs in Sydney. Let the detractors say as they wish, our game was once a hard fist on heads game. Masters ruled in those days, one of his team got 18 months out of the game for hitting people. Roy took on with his wests, Manly, a beach side seen to be better place to live team in his constructed battle of the Fibros, housing more in tune with government homes, Vs the toffs. He trained his team , probably a stunt, to stand face to face and slap each other a warm up. Masters is no super coach, but he has been one of our best an ex school teacher his brain and understanding of the game stood out ,worth a read. Posted by Belly, Friday, 17 June 2011 5:18:10 AM

AH but the thread is not dead, for those in both states the final early next month will set the blood running.
A QLD and Australian star is unable to play. Yet, hurts to say it, a true Cane Toad useless for anything, becomes a star on putting that jumper on. Only NRL fans have seen that chanting group of players running on to the field shouting they are QUEENSLANDERS. NSW just maybe ends that for a decade this time. This is no game for our northern brothers. It is blood sweat and Hate mixed and rolled about . Here we see it may as well be hash cookies. You get a chance to ignore the ref on the ground, the laws of the game, the fact JT has left over penalty points from last years matches. Queenslanders will tell you they can See a Halo over JTs head, and Satan on the NSW jumpers this will not how ever stop them giving every thing they have in a game made for hurt. Is he right?
He said NSW has no passion, no ability to beat Queensland.
I think he is.
OH have blamed refs selectors those gambling on the game.
But what drives Queenslanders to win in the last second to never ever say die.
I love every thing about traveling in Queensland, but not the horrible truth, we get beaten to a flat road killed cane toad shape year after year.
Only ten years of victory's can take the taste of humble pie out of our mouths.
How do cane toads go in the mud?
