There are many of the public attempts to crack down on the people that abusing (long term unemployed) or those who will potentially abuse (illegal immigrants) our welfare system. It seems that not much is done to prevent fraud that could take place as the result of corrupted activities of public servants.

Millions of dollars spent for upgrading of the computer systems which in fact match people only under ever changing, sometimes misspelled names and addresses and millions of dollars spent for bringing into life identity verification services which is not used (or sabotaged) by public servants.

The fact is that the fraudsters would only going to be found if the proceeding agency wants the fraudster to be found and if the physical fraudster is in fact exist. The agency is in the position to check itself which ultimately means no one checks the checker. Police generally consider that records of personal information to be an administrative matter.

Now, only one hundred duplicate or alternate records would result in more then 1.5 mln dollars to the country. Thousand of such fraudulent records whether resulted in fraudulent activity of the customers or corrupted activity of the enrolling agencies would be in billions of public money. Plus, all that billions spent for fraud prevention.

Where all that links us to our money in the bank and our properties, where all that entitles criminals for the Australian benefits, education, housing and Medicare are in fact just personal information stored in the black boxes of computers, the identity crimes going to be epidemic unless simple and straightforward measures are taken.

Recent precedent on the identity case resulted in controversial decision that will or wish of the bearer of identity is not necessary element for the name to be changed. Parliaments shall not delay with writing and introduction of identity law and law in regards of government records of personal information. The records of personal information of the people eligible to reside in Australia need to be transparent and easily verifiable. That shall include the electoral roll

The thread links well to one I started welfare reform.
Over the years here in OLO we have touched on it often.
Every time some claim a form of bigotry against recipients.
Far from it.
I have an ALP/Union background.
And it is much more than unlikely I wish to be unfair to almost all on welfare.
If today we made a fair wage for work for the dole a must for every one.
We would see 20.000 bought down, job holders in the cash market unable to do that work.
One claiming twice,even more who could not turn up twice.
A number, be realistic please, would refuse to work.
A very big pool who by every effort got disability so they got it forever will be found out.
I could, without looking too hard name 20 who should not be getting welfare.
2 would be the biggest drug dealers in 100 klm.
Socialism, humanism, communism, are failed dead beasts.
Capitalism is the truck we all get our lifestyles from.
Our care for the needy long ago lost track of this fact.
In feeding the greedy we take from the needy, we stand back and watch as looters strip what we put aside for those who need it .
Let us reform welfare police it but not take from those who truly need it.

As I have said time and time again, stop paying cash and make it mandatory that ALL welfare recipients be drug tested before receiving any benefits.

More and more workplaces are becoming 'drug free', why not centerlink.

After all, whether they are genuine or fakes, it is still a 'hand out' provided by the tax payer.

At the very least we tax payers should be entitled to laws that ensure these hand outs are not wasted.
