Yesterday (Sunday 20 February 2011), World Day of Social Justice went by without any real media attention or recognition by the general public.
Is it that to most Australians, its a case of "I'm alright Jack......."

Well what is this intangible thing called Social Justice?

In a nutshell, Social Justice is based on equality of rights for all peoples and the possibility for all human beings without discrimination, to benefit from economic and social progress everywhere. Promoting social justice is about more than increasing income and creating jobs. It is also about rights, dignity and voice for working women and means well as economic, social and political empowerment.

Is this too much to ask for from any society irrespective of political platform?

If you are interested, check out the ILO website.

We Australians gave up anything tainted by the very left half a century ago.
But we matched over the bridge, still get wet eyes if we hear from little things big things grow.
And we will come if it is not just a plat form for a minority trying to be a majority it never will be.

I'm alright Jack

'Well what is this intangible thing called Social Justice?'

Glad you asked. It's something namby panby intellectual elite Chardonnay sipping socialists like to bang on about to increase their street cred. Full of guilt that they have managed such largesse which is in total conflict with their stated political beliefs, a cleansing exercise is needed, and a catch phrase like 'social justice' helps them conspicuously display concern for those less fortunate. In short, they live in a fantasy life completely supported by the system they despise.

I would rather they put their money where their mouth is, and invite the next derelict homeless person they see to dinner, and vacate their house to him and any one of his friends. It would be a much better way to deal with said guilt.

Social Justice is a discipline of motherhood statements relating how if we all hold hands and sing we can make the world a better place, with no concrete practical plan that isn't based on everyone being truly altruistic by nature, and with no thought to unintended consequences like the destruction of our whole economy and way of life.

exhibit a): 'It is also about rights, dignity and voice for working women and means well as economic, social and political empowerment.'

BTW: 'voice for working women'?

So all men have rights dignity and a 'voice'?

Do all male leaders speak for their gender and female leaders not?

I don't think the majority of homeless persons on our streets female?

Houellebecq

you r in fine form after a spell.

'I would rather they put their money where their mouth is, and invite the next derelict homeless person they see to dinner, and vacate their house to him and any one of his friends. It would be a much better way to deal with said guilt.'

That would mean personal sacrifice rather than using tax payer money to promote and grandstand. Ouch!

Taurus, "Yesterday (Sunday 20 February 2011), World Day of Social Justice went by without any real media attention or recognition by the general public."

Should have been on a weekday to justify the limo, lunch and guests on the card. Er, whose turn was it to be host?

Good for the churches though, an excuse for themed prayer and pass around the plate. Go the Catholics, they do occasions like that well.

I'm giving you fair warning, Houellebecq.

I plan to use this offering of yours without attribution:

"Social Justice is a discipline of motherhood statements relating how if we all hold hands and sing we can make the world a better place"

I shall also be modifying this for a wider audience:

"..they live in a fantasy life completely supported by the system they despise"

So, sue me.

Yes H, that vividly paints the dichotomy of their reasoning, well said.

I believe the Carbon footprint for the Copenhagen and Bonn Summits encompassed five years of emissions for Mali, Senegal, Ghana, Niger, and the ever popular Cote'Ivoire, and emitted in a record of sixty days. They are all hypocrites of course as are their defenders who bang away at their computers by the light of the Humphrey Davy.
