DON Farrell told the US embassy a year before the coup that Julia Gillard was "campaigning for the leadership", WikiLeaks cables reveal.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/julia-gillard-after-top-job-a-year-before-coup-wikileaks/story-fn59niix-1225972416553

The revelation challenges the ALP's version of events surrounding the leadership challenge - that a reluctant Ms Gillard was drafted by her caucus colleagues at the 11th hour to stand as a candidate against Mr Rudd, whose leadership had become terminal as public support was lost. A WikiLeaks cable names Senator Farrell as telling US embassy staff in June last year Ms Gillard was trying to knock off Mr Rudd.

This is direct proof that Julia Gillard and the Labor party stood up in front of the Australian people and told a bald faced lie. That she is preparing to break a written agreement with the miners, and back flip over the carbon tax is a simple consequence of the complete untrustworthiness of the Labor government.

My Gawd! thought we had got away with it!
Nice however SM, you have put some harsh views on Wikileaks and its founder here in past days.
Nice to see you use what you can ,but do you think, come be honest Mr Tony Abbott wanted his job before we knew?
By the way Gillard, like Abbott is no good in the job she/he has.
Bill Shorten will face Mal at the next election if this Parliament runs its term.

Shadow Minister:

I'm beginning to suspect that you've got a "thing" for Julia Gillard and the Labor Government. You seem somewhat obsessed with them.
Could you come up with something a bit more creative and original? Instead of re-hashing the same old litany. Politicians have a lot to answer for in both parties. Yet you seem to continually focus on only one side - you need to broaden your outlook a teeny, weeny bit. Either that or get something that's really worth doing!

STOP PRESS!

Ambitious politician plots ALP leadership
takeover before the event. Post-takeover
party spin denies such machinations exist
in the ALP.

I bet they do everything different in the
Liberals. Tony Abbott just woke up one
day and discovered that he was leader of
the Opposition.

Belly, Lexi, talisman,

Whether Abbott wanted the top job or not is completely irrelevant as TA never claimed otherwise.

The difference with this compared to Julia's continuous back flipping and reneging on promises is that she had the effrontery to stand up in front of the public and lie through her teeth.

Lexi I break a rule, I have promised my self only one post in a Shadow Minister thread, unless, very unlikely, it is a balanced one.
You will gain no ground here, my latest stab at who he is?
Who cares.
My party is not much good just now,we will be better AJ after Julia, but the opposition is our very best thing we have going for us.
My regards SM and thanks keep up the good work.

Shadow Minister:

You accuse Julia Gillard of lying through her teeth. My goodness, wasn't it Tony Abbott who admitted that you couldn't believe a word he said? Pot-Kettle?

So what's new?

Every leader needs to keep looking over his shoulder. Even Howard was no different.

He had a period of relative safety while Reith and Costello were eyeing each other off to take the top job.

When Reith quit, Costello became a serious threat, so what did Howard do?

He stacked the Cabinet with Abbott supporters - much to the frustration of Costello.

Politics is a dirty business so it's only natural that the worst of the worst climbs over the bodies of his opponents to get to the top job.

As for Wikileaks , there is more yet to come out and as far back as 2005. Let's see what that tells us.

In every political party there are rumblings about leadership even after a new leader is elected.

However while I doubt SM would be raising this issue if 'lies' were perpetrated by the Libs, I have to agree if this information is correct it does not do much for public confidence in the ALP.

JG states that she did not intend to challenge KR until that fateful night (or two?) before, giving into the pressure from within her own party. That might be the case even if leadership issues were raised as early as 2007. It is possible to have an eye on the leadership but that does not necessarily presume an all-out plot to depose a current leader in the here and now. That is what needs to be ascertained.

However, it is also not hard to see how Kevin Rudd's autocratic style and his non-consultative approach even within his own Cabinet would eventually lead to the domino effect in terms of support.

This is just a case that further highlights the need for greater transparency. The public is sick of being mushrooms to political and media spin.

these MINIMUM wages are much put upon by the elitsist employer assosiations...mr how hard screwed them out on a due wage increase

TO GIVE them super..[not that any of the poor slobs will ever collect it..its all chewed up by fees..and other nasties...while the real elites get nice topups]

yes average wages went up...
but average workers DONT GET..AVERAGE WAGES

only the top [elites]..get anywhere near average wage..
you know the ones who get other lurks..like cars..petrol vouches..or govt superanuation..cheap rents..or other bonus

Clearly Shadow Minister is trolling, and I am shocked to see that Graham has allowed him such a free hand to do this, when he is so strict on 'trolling' when people from 'the other side' raise issues of real concern that do not fit perfectly into the OLO world view.

This thread should be removed, and such partisan views not given oxygen, eh Graham?

TBC,

Trolling is printing something defamatory or something inflammatory without any evidence.

I provided the link to the newspaper article and commented on its implications. If you disagree with either the newspaper article or my interpretations of its implications, please feel free to do so. As yet no one has.

"A WikiLeaks cable names Senator Farrell as telling US embassy staff in June last year Ms Gillard was trying to knock off Mr Rudd." - Leaves little room for doubt.

I have also seen articles casting aspersions on Abbott with only the flimsiest material.

Shadow Minister

Yes, I like your definition.

"Trolling is printing something defamatory or something inflammatory without any evidence."

But it seems there are new standards at OLO, and even when respected web pages publish stories that form the basis of a potential OLO thread, with a link supplied, authors can still be deemed to be 'trolling' by the editorial team here.

When the rules are not applied consistently, it's hard to know what is OK and what is not, isn't it?

Come on Shadow Minister, even you would have been unable to keep
a straight face and not laugh, when you wrote that one.

Yes, politics is a dirty game, but there are no two dirtier shin
kickers around then Hockey and especially Abbott.

The Liberal party blew its chance, when it did not run with
Costello. Time for you to go out and find some real talent within
the liberal backbenches, for right now Abbott would not make a
better leader then Gillard.

Yabby,

Again, irrelevant. TA when he deposed Turnbull did not stand up to the public and blink innocently and claim it was thrust upon him.

Rudd was a dud and had to go. This was motivation enough, the public would had misgivings, but would have accepted it. According to the article Julia lied directly and with no conscience to the public.
