I recall enduring the Howard years as being the closest to a dictatorship Australia has had; SIEVX, children over board, workchoices, detaining of Dr Mohamed Haneef, Cornelia Rau, taxpayers funding of private schools and many more actions taken without referendum - is this what is meant by Abbott's "guided democracy"?
