There has really only been one train of thought when considering the future of the relationship between Israel and Iran. At some stage you pretty much take it for granted there's going to be some sort of conflict. It just seems inevitable, until now.

83-year-old Ministry of Defense adviser Uri Lubrani who was ambassador to Iran from 1973 to 1978.

"Mr. Lubrani has for four decades been on the front lines of Israel's evolving relationship with Iran—from close ally to bitter foe. For much of that time, he warned that Iran's theocratic regime posed the Mideast's biggest threat, a view overlooked for years.

Heading Israeli government activities in Lebanon since 1983, he was one of the first to warn of Iran's growing influence among the country's Shiites. His recommendations were largely neglected and Hezbollah soon emerged as one of Israel's most potent foes.

"Lubrani was one of the few, the very few, to identify that Israel should find a way to the Shiites before Iran did," recalls retired Brig. Gen. Shimon Shapira, who was an intelligence officer in Lebanon at the time."

More recently, as Iran's nuclear program grew and Washington and Israel hardened their views, Mr. Lubrani's calls to support what appeared to be a beaten-down opposition seemed out of touch."

But clearly now they are starting to listen as the recent elections highlighted a genuine will in the opposition, and support.

"Today, Israel's political and military establishment appears to be tilting toward one of his long-ignored views: Israeli support for Iran's opposition movement—and not a miltary strike—is the best way to combat the regime in Tehran."

Israel changing Tact with Iran - really?

My old english Teacher in 1962 told the class not to use metaphors as we would only mix them.

The phrase is to change "Tack" which is a sailing term for changing direction of the boat. What does this changing tact mean?

Who is the aggressor.Israel has a least 100 nukes and the means to deliver them.Iran has yet to develop one.Why are not the weapons inspectors in Israel?

On the topic I think the people of both Iran and Israel do not deserve the idiots that they have at the head of their governments. In my opinion the leaders of both Israel and Iraq think war will benefit them (Not the country, the leaders). It is extremly sad and I have no advice to give here, except pass on what John Lennon sang. Take your pick between "Love is the answer" or "Give peace a chance".

That's not much of a change at all. Still ganging up with the USA against Iran which, so far has attacked neither of it. Still not content to live peacefully within the borders the UN originally gave them. Still believing it can stage covert hostile operations in neighbouring countries without bringing upon themselves the well deserved hatred of many.

Who cares what nasty belligerent schemes Israel is now planning? I would be more interested in hearing some predictions about what Iran and its allies are likely to do if Israel makes the mistake of openly attacking Iran. Would the Russians just stand idly by whilst the nuclear installations it is helping Iran to build are trashed? Is China any friend of the Zionists? Might the Palestinians and their friends choose the moment to launch another attack on Israel?

With Israels belligerence, warmongering and WMDs is it any wonder Iran seeks nuclear weapons. The arms race in the middle east has started and it was Israel that started it.

They arent changing tack at all. They continue to escalate, provoke and avoid peace at all costs. They continue to ignore any laws that dont suit them. They spit in the faces of allies and friends.

It is time Israel was taken down a peg or two. A most arrogant and spiteful little country that gets way more attention and support than it deserves.

Convince the Iranians that Israel is about to attack them.
