And you think you've got problems?
On Thursday my wife applied for a passport in order to join the family coven on a cruise through the pacific islands after Christmas this year.
Yes I get left at home with the dog. I think I may survive but perhaps my liver might take a hammering. ;-)

However, she when she dug out the marriage cert it didn't have a number. We have discovered that due to an ancient (33yo) bureaucratic screw up our marriage might not be legal....oops

If it isn't.
Then all her proof of identity documentation will be unacceptable...no passport no refund of fee because it was booked as a cabin of 4
and what do we do then?

This trip has been in the cauldron, eye of newt and much incantations (planning)for 12 months. If she can't go then The safest place for me will be somewhere else far far away. :-o (joke)
Any ideas?

Didn't consider talking to Hatches, Matches, and Dispatches, or some other gov department?.

She can't get a birth cert in her nee name?. Your surname is really only a pseudonym if it isn't legal. Just tick, "Yeah, been also known as "Mrs Inater".

Examinator I may have the same problem. The priest that married us got the date wrong on the Marriage Cert.It is out by a day.

No worries ,big brother according to 60 minutes last week has it all solved.People in the USA are already getting RIFD chips implanted under their skins, not only to indentify them, but have virtual money in the chips which can be transferred to Govt and Corporate entities. You won't have to worry about marriage certificates.

This will make your life simplier and safer. So rest easy.

examinator - you don't need a marriage certificate to get a passport. Your missus just needs to produce enough other ID (e.g. birth certificate, Medicare card, driver's licence etc) to establish her bona fides.

Arjay - do you think it's good for someone as paranoid as you to spend so much time online? You do realise that they're scanning your brain via your computer screen don't you?

I'm safe because I've got a tinfoil hat... and a passport ;)

Fellas,
I'm going to wait until It is confirmed but thanks I might take some of your actions.

Girls,

I'm waiting for your responses to do I re(?) marry. go for a new commitment ceremony, registry office or Live in sin?
What are the consequences from your perspective. I admit I don't understand her motives..e.g. When "We...she" picked her engagement ring.
What it represented was way more important than it's form to me. she hated diamonds 'too cold'.

We went to every jewelers shop in Footscray eventually going back to the original two rings looked at, one an emerald the other a ruby. I told her what ever she wanted was ok with me. 48 minutes after closing time she picked the emerald.

20 years later, after a small fortune having been spent on matching jewelry, she let it slip that she had wanted/preferred rubies! So I bought her a ruby dress set....only to be told "it's nice... but it's not an emerald or a diamond!" I give up!
She is prone to 'whatever you think' refusing to decide. Then after the purchase I get the 'buts' and 'the what abouts'. So back to the original question your guess is probably better than mine.

I have a passport application in front of me, and it insists on a Birth Certificate, not a marriage certificate. I only picked it up last week, so it should be current.

I went through this recently and did have to produce a marriage certificate because I changed my name on marriage.

You gotta love bureacratic bungling don't you. It is a tangle of forms and more forms and stat decs and God knows what else to fix these seemingly simple errors. Sigh!! :)

Good luck exammy.

Pete,
I think the problem is that it requires proof of identity (100 points or something) none of "the war dept's", current stuff agrees with the name on the birth cert. She was told it had to prove her birth name = the proof of identity. Even the neighbour is nervous about signing the photo as being the name on the Birth cert. She's happy to verify under the married name though.

Anyway we're waiting for a formal response before hitting the panic button. I just thought it was a great case of bureaucratic Oops or big brother taking his eye off the ball. Perhaps there's hope for wanna be reformers like me yet. There's still some time.

Pelican
If it does go boobs up my question to the girls is what should I do if anything about the married status ...see my penultimate post.

Well exammy
If it turns out you were never legally married I would definintely say get married and renew those earlier vows with new vigour and energy. But I am a hopeless romantic.
