Going by the recent happenings in the Capitalist world perhaps we can't really be trusted with our hands in the cookie jar.

The 'rulers' gave us 'working class' an open licence to make as much money as possible and bowed to our needs to make even more when we grumbled and moaned about unfair it was that 'they' had access to markets that made THEM ridiculously wealthy. That same working class ended up ruling, and making laws for themselves, which created a brick wall at the end of the tracks.

The 'Empire Class' lost the reins to the galloping conundrum around 1900. They just didn't know it yet.

Join, or create, a group of people to get together without any strict guidelines or anyone standing over them with a large stick and watch what happens.

Lord Of The Flies is where we're at as a species.

'Money' is the worst thing that has happened to us. It was created by people who couldn't be sodded getting up early to milk a cow.

It's seems fairly obvious to me that that we are really only one step up the evolutionary ladder from Hyena's. We worked together to get the kill and when it's dead we kill eachother for it.

Right now, on the STG Scale, we are at 'concerned'. But the general population really has no idea where we REALLY are, and no one at the top is sharing. If we see economies making shifts using their military then I'll shift from 'concerned' to 'build a bivvy in the bush, and take ammo'.

This has been, The Truth, According To Me.

While we may have reached the hyena stage according to your philosophy, on a positive note there is a strong movement away from materialism and the worship of the almighty dollar.

I think humans are an adaptable lot and while there will always be lemmings, the signs are that people are waking up.

People say family and faith (of any description) is important. Throw $500,000 into a crowd and watch what happens.

Anyone complaining about the stimulus package?.

"That same working class ended up ruling, and making laws for themselves..."

Uh? When did that happen? I must have missed it. :)

Dear Stg,

You asked, "Seen any Royalty in Parliament lately?"

No, but the Queen is our country's Head of State.
Her Representative is the Governor General, who
has to swear an oath of allegiance, and
all Prime Minister's have to travel to London and
present their credentials to Buckingham Palace...

The gov general isn't going to buck the system we created. She just stamps the paper work.

The royals are meaningless in todays society when it comes to running the show.

StG,

I put it to you that the Royalty remained significant in Australia into the 1950s and even the 1960s. Remember the Coo-ee March of WWI? Standing-up in the picture theatre would be known to those still not retired. Womens Weeklies are especially very popular still when a Royal is photographed.

Our parlimentary position is as stated by Foxy. We are still tethered to the Anglo-centric past of the Old World. Yet, the Queen is tireless worker admired even by republicans like me. Why we remain a country, which could be called "OGB", "Once Great Britain", is because the (a) republicans (fortunately) hold their beliefs without much intensity and therefore happy to wait a decade or two and (b) the lack of a common republican model. Ultimately, the noble caste system will wane. The transition will be no worse, yet more appropriate to a multicultural New World Australia on the cusp of Asia.

The development of a comfortable middle class stands in opposition to to the tiered Peer & Commoner System. Royalty may have once had a purpose, but we have moved on. A free democratic republic is superior to a caste system.

Oliver ~ Can't disagree, but we're still responsible for our situation due to greed.
