An unexpected scientific discovery.

It is the unexpected scientific discoveries that are the most consequential. Obvious when you think about. Experiments that merely confirm current theories, while important, are not going to change much.

This one is a doozy. Yehudit Bergman and Howard Cedar of Hebrew University and Hadassha Medical School respectively have discovered that a SINGLE GENE acts as a master control for cell differentiation.

See: http://www.alphagalileo.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=readrelease&releaseid=534939&ez_search=1

The discovery that a single master gene controls this complex process is wholly unexpected. It has important medical applications.

Quote:

"Their studies shed light not only on this central process, but also can have consequences for medical treatment. One of the biggest challenges today is to generate new tissues for replacing damaged cells in a variety of different diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease or diabetes. Many efforts have been aimed at “reprogramming” readily-available adult cells, but scientists have discovered that it is almost impossible to do this, mainly because normal tissues are locked in their fixed program and have lost their ability to convert back to fully potent, flexible, embryonic cells.

"Now, with the new information discovered by Bergman and Cedar, the molecular program that is responsible for turning off cell flexibility has been identified, and this may clear the way towards developing new approaches to program cells in a controlled and specific manner."

Note: AlphaGalileo is one of the most reputable European-based sources of scientific information so this is probably the real deal.

i suppose its true some people talk about it [to self agrandisment]

others just get on with doing it[cause its the right thing to be doing

What you do not understand one under dog is that this is not a simple harvest, incubate and replace treatment that they are talking about here, which as you point out is a treatment that has been around for years. What this is saying is that if they can find a way to make this gene do what they want any cell in the body could be turned into a stem cell. Imagine if you will someone has terminal cancer, before stem cells would have to be harvested, incubated and transplanted back in to the patient. If this works out it could be as simple as taking a small piece of skin, maybe a scrapping, and turn that into as many stem cells as you need. If it works you could have a ready supply of stem cells in days rather than months. It is a very exciting discovery indeed.

Yep, steven that's a biggy. I don't know how 'unexpected' it was, as scientists have been working towrds finding the developmental genes for differentiation of tissues for some time.

Combine that with nanotech DNA sequencing (either nanopore or nano-gated):
http://nano.cancer.gov/news_center/2008/jan/nanotech_news_2008-01-30g.asp

and what you have is a biological revolution that has the otential to eclipse anythinh seen previously. The potential for data generation is enormous. Current computer storage and processing capacity, as fast as it is, can't keep up with the amount of data generated by even current high-throughput sequencing technologies. The next technological bottleneck is in computing. Where's my parallel processing quantum computer dammit?

And people are still struggling with the implications of paternity testing.

dear art hurn
its the'glory grabbers'i was refering to
those who claim gods holy lands[who are trying to elivate their cleverness while oppressing a whole people

those mentioned are harfdly the first to report it

regardless i see propaganda and all i can do is respond

they that some seek glory in the eyes of man
abouve seeking the glory of god ,
are revealed by the deeds done in their name

who was not gifted to live from god?
who is not gods chosen?
what people are not gods people?

by their deeds will we know them
murder for land is yet murder
[only one gives all life their lives to live] if 'gods' /'people'
wont do it,just who is the god they seek to serve with genociding palastein-ians

man kind is not an island
[science can not but reveal the way god did it]
it will be useless to explain it to one with a closed mind

>>What you do not understand one under dog<<

i give as i get
[are you of the same belief?]

your use of >>this is not a simple harvest, incubate and replace treatment that they are talking about here<<

no thats right bro [were talking about helping the blind to see ,the deaf to hear [getting the lame to walk]

very 'god like' dont you think
so who is going to get the credit?

the next 'einstein'-esq plagerist?
or be the next'wein'- burger promoting the scoop?
