So what

Those who took on fixed rate terms knew about the break costs and decided it was what was best for them.

In times of anticipated interest rate increase (like a year ago), fixed raters were sitting pretty.

They had the ”advantage” supposedly, over people (like me) with variable rates which looked like going up.

The point is

You made your deal. No one forced you into it

You should never take on a mortgage lightly and should always understand the terms exactl before signing on the line.

I agree with pelican “I don't think bailing out those on fixed interest rates is the responsibility of other taxpayers.”

Thank you for your comments. As a note, this isn't a personal issue. I was interested from a societal perspective. It seems from the vitriolic responses that people with variable home loans or no mortgage would be angered by any government assistance for those who fixed their rates. Thanks again for contributing.
