The US elections - learning from the Bradley effect

During the last few weeks, I found myself following with interest the US elections and debates. The attraction however was neither economical or political. It was the cultural and behavioral side of the US society and voters.

It was interesting to see how the average voter in the US became a "Bradley free" voter. Obama won by a landslide which means most of his voters are those who changed in the last minute under the bradley effect. Yet another message that individuals in their hearts are becoming race, color and gender blind.

While many countries around the globe (East and West) are struggling with anti-discrimnation laws, the American cultural and social behavior proves again that it is an example to be followed.

The result of the USA election has restored my faith in humanity. Despite what the polls were saying prior to the election I never took it for granted that Obama would win. But he did - resoundingly. McCain would've been more of the same and the nation finally accepted that what was needed was change.

Obama understands that everything is interconnected;

"Out of many we are one"

Finally the United States is united.

I too am deeply satisfied that Americans
chose the politics of hope, not the
politics of cynicism in this last election.

Hope not fear has united the country.

The message of Barack Obama got through to
the people:

"America, this is our moment.
This is our time.
Our time to turn the page
Of the policies of the past."

With the largest voter turn out ever,
The country listened to Obama's message
and did just that.

How good it is!

Everyone knows America is more segregated now than it was 40 years ago. Middle class blacks are moving into certain areas so they can happily be in the majority. America is nation of small tribes, not a multicultural society - just like Australia.

Read Bill Bishop's The Big Sort for more info.

Hi Truth78,

"Everyone knows America is more segregated now than it was 40 years ago"

Maybe its your position and I respect that. What happened on ground during the elections is different. Mixed race marriage and social activities has increased in the last 40 years which is the opposite of what you are saying.

"America is nation of small tribes, not a multicultural society - just like Australia"

Not sure where you live but I lived in Australia as a naturalised Aussie for over a decade. Australia is a welcoming multi-culture and the norm is people are welcoming and accepting.

There is a room where each subculture is comfortable doing together.

I think you are mixing both.

Peace,
