I still stand by my statement that nothing can be ethically right or wrong as it is a scientific/philosophical arguement.

That is not to say that it is not morally wrong but that depends on who's morals you are referring to.

What is morally wrong to Boazy may not be morally wrong to me. That does not make either of us right. We just have different morals.

If cells are created using my karyotype why should they not be given back to me?

Also its not always 46 chromosomes some individuals have other karyotypes with added or missing sex chromosomes, including 47,XYY, 47,XXY, 47,XXX and 45,X. The karyotype 45,Y does not occur, as an embryo without an X chromosome cannot survive.

SteveM,

I feel we are arguing semantics more than ethics. It would be nice if we could find common definitions we agree to and hope everyone else can as well. Some people are just plain contrary though.

A study of morals in a society should (one could reasonably expect) produce common agreement on what is right and what is wrong given differing philosphies and viewpoints.

I think it would be universally agreed that it is wrong for one group to impose it's morals upon another unilaterally. Whether a group is believed by some will burn in hell for all eternity should they live by their form of moral code should ultimately be a free choice to make. Problem? many of us live in a democracy where a 'majority rule' is naively believed by some to be in force. In such a 'free society' whose moral code should we all follow?

My point about the 23 pairs of chromosomes was to clearly establish that we get half from either parent (normally) under God's 'plan' whereas nucleonic transfer is clearly not of that plan (but are of man playing at being as God). Different variations are certainly possible but are mutations (God's 'perfect' creations or not? God's little 'jokes' perhaps? - Anyone?)

As for you having your own Karyotype created cells - sure - why not? Just provide your own egg cell, not anyone else's to be perfectly 'safe'! OK? ; )

Are you a man or a mouse? And put down that cheese while I am talking to you!

Hope Elmer Fudd doesn't live nearby.

Seriously, apart from the semantics of 'ethics' and absolutivity of right and wrong - I AGREE with you.

My argument was with the 'moral majority' christians opposed to scientific research to cure disease.

I want to argue with them that this is not their area and they should BUTT OUT - not 'argue' with you.

Wonder why it's gone all quiet??
