What was I saying on my earlier thread "Saving the economy...or the people"?
Love for ordinary people is passing away, as love for rotten money grows.
An ABC News broadcast at 6pm today was saying that Qantas is going to lay off hundreds of people and cut services all over the place leaving people in the lurch in country regions because the price of fuel was going to add to 2billion dollars to their operating costs over the next 12 months.
What became of HEART?
What became of Qantas being NOBLE and taking a hit financially to save staff from getting the bullet and Australia from the social consequences caused by their sackings?
Where is the NOBLE!?
Im likewise sick and tired of grubby banks and corporations cutting staff with little concern for the consequences of their workers.
Can the federal government PLEASE help?
There must be some legislation that could prevent the big side of town from dumping their workers with merely a handful of dollars that could be implemented or established to save lives.
YES...lives.
Every time a corp dumps staff...real people hurt and die!
They really do.
They die from marriage split ups, they die from newly aquired drug and alcohol addictions... and from suicide.
Come Kevin Rudd...legislate to help people get a better deal! Legislate to help people live.
What a gross society we are becoming.

Gibo, I believe Geoff Dixon’s statements that rapidly rising fuel prices are compromising the ability of the company to deliver services, and that staff cuts will have to accompany route cuts.

It is not a matter of heartlessness. It is a matter of sensible management, under the threat of company not being able to stay viable. We’ve seen numerous airlines go down.

Things are going to get considerably tighter for Qantas over the next few years….as they get tighter for us all, due to the energy crunch.

These job-losses at Qantas are probably the first tangible episode in a major phase of rising unemployment. I can envisage quite massive lay-offs due to changing economics forced upon us by rising fuel prices….or more to the point; forced upon us by hopeless governance under Howard and now Rudd, and extraordinary community apathy, in the face an obvious critical issue that has been looming for some years.

Things are bound to get really ugly in the very near future. It will happen in a very unfair manner.

Heart and nobility, as inconspicuous as they are now, will all but disappear in an increasingly dog-eat-dog world.

As a unionist Gibo I should be up the front on a stump shouting good on ya brover!
Or if from another faction you tell em comrade!
But while some will call me class traitor Ludwig is not too far from my true position.
No betrayal of my union movement just room to understand the issues, truly understand.
Fuel is no easy issue to resolve Quantas is a privately owned firm not mine or yours few share holders want to down size fewer still want to go broke.
Reducing tax on our fuel will make other sections of our economy suffer and this airline may buy all its fuel over seas in any case.
We can have little effect on world oil prices and would be mad to cut any tax just yet we may need every cent in our country pockets at any time.
Much bigger impacts on us all than this are very likely as fuel gos well past $2 soon.
interest rates are about to go up again how long can our economy stay safe?
A complex issue no easy answers.

Gibo "Qantas is going to lay off hundreds of people and cut services all over the place leaving people in the lurch in country regions”

Seems to me Qantas and every other airline have to rethink their entire operating strategy because the shift in oil prices.

Qantas is a commercial business.

They do not have a bottomless taxpayer who they can sink their teeth into and suck dry whilst providing air services at a loss.

They have a responsibility to their share holders, those people who have risked their savings by buying the Qantas shares, to look after.

One of my dislikes of government owned businesses is the very thing which Gibo seems to expect, maintenance of the status quo regardless of commercial realities.

Thank God the Qantas business is no longer a department of government.

I pay my taxes so they fund the necessary work of government, not to speculate on airline operations.

I see what you say guys.
My stance though as a christian has always been that the ordinary people i.e. a corps workers, are far more important than the profit margin.
I mean "we hired them didnt we".
We gave them their vision and their dreams and the means whereby they could fulfill those visions and dreams.
Theres a huge responsibility in that.
The biblical principle is "give and it shall be given to you".
It works.
If I want to get out of debt I tithe into my church and support it and overseas missions.
God then returns on that.
If vast corps put their people first and not the profit levels, God Blesses those corps in return.
I remember many years ago a little film called "Spotswood" and the time and motion man who came into the factory to cut staff to keep the business alive. In the end being the good man that he really was in his heart, he worked it that most of the staff could keep their jobs and the company could still made a profit.
Qantas and the big corps need to learn from such things.
Its not about money...its about loving people.
After all, where are we all going?
From conception to the grave to the Judgments for whatever behaviour we have shown towards others.
My thread here is mainly a protest about greed and decadence... and the needs that people have to be protected from those who dont care all that much about really loving them:)
"Spotswood" Qantas, and you big banks, ... have a look.

Crickey Gibo, “Qantas and the big corps need to learn from such things”

Every corporation benefits best from retaining and cultivating the interests of their staff and many do. The point is, with oil prices going through the roof, adjustments have to be made.

Working on the practical side of life, it may be necessary, due to commercial circumstances such as wild oil price fluctuations, to surrender the security normally afforded all the staff to only 80% of the staff and 20% suffer.

That is reality.

I am sure Qantas would prefer to retain all of them just as I am sure Qantas wished oil prices were still under $10/barrel.

Its not about money...its about loving people.

So now Qantas can love the 80% of their staff as an alternative to going broke and loving no one.

PS I used to work on the Spotswood site, back in 1980s. ACI blew glass bottles there and made bottle caps mobil had a tank farm and they turned an old building into the science museum. The Spotswood pub used to have strippers there every lunch time, you could get a pie, lager and a nipple all in for about $5. Interesting days….

As for “and the needs that people have to be protected from those who dont care all that much about really loving them:)”

I suggested loving the stripper but she just slapped me (for free).

You will protect no one from anyone else Gibo, pipe dreams and sentimentality.

People who really don’t care abandon their children, they do not build corporations.
