Error" Been there...

Cut and paste error. I have worked on Artifical Intelligence project with IBM but have had nothing to do with the scramjet, apart from seeing it on the news. No one wants a nuclear war and ICBMs are faster still.

It is proper that Government does not show all its cards.

Cheers not fears,

O.

There is nothing special about scramjet research. It's just part of the ongoing push for better weapons. You may not like it, but if you don't do it you end up being the people throwing spears at machine guns. It does have civil applications, as do most technologies developed by the military.

Hi freediver,

I am a aware of its civil applications and referring, on behaviour of UQ [I don't work], made a few short comments on the BBC, via Richard Quest. I think its full development is quite sometime off, yet those few seconds of operation achieved, after re-entry, have important implications for its feasibility.

What I was saying is that we should avoid dsicussing is strategy/tactics, as by happenstance, a poster might develop a good idea. Conversely, we should direct sensitive comments through safe channels, like Eistein the letter signed and and sent to Rosevelt. Of course people like Oppenheimer or Oliphant didn't need to know the contents of the letter, and think it was drafted by someone else - Fermi? Szilard was against making nuclear technology public.

The above said, it will great to travel any where in the world within a few hours. provides.

I am disapointed that more hasn't been achieved with ion drive and
robotic stace travel. The former was developed in a primative form c. 1957.

Cheers.

Good ideas aren't dangerous. It's a huge effort to get this thing off the ground so it's not like someone is going to build one in their backyard. People should be encouraged to discuss the implications of new technology. A good idea from an interested member of the public could prove valuable to someone.

Freediver,

Agree. UQ and its partners need all the help government provide. I suspect there will be an intermediate stage; A hybrid conventional jet for 40-70K feet and scram-jet from sub-orbital. Metal fatique and sonic booms, also need to be considered.

Perhaps, the idea of using the hydrogen or oxygen in the air to propel a car might an even greater benefit.

What a waste of money. This country can do with some rain-making knowledge instead. The people of Australia again are being fooled into believing that this government who signs these treaties are doing this for the sole purpose of looking after it's citizens. They are only looking after a dozen or so masters in this world, probably unbeknown to them. Conspiracy is what I call it. Does anyone really believe that beings from outer space let all this happen unpunished? Anyone heard about "The Disclosure Project" ? Google it and spend an hour or so listening to these experts.Learn something! If anybody of my age can do it anybody can!
