Global Warming ... the legacy we leave our children

I have been frustrated for the longest time about the apathy out there in the world and here in our own country ,about the ever increasing threat of climate change.

We are now witnessing our icecaps melting at an alarming rate, floods and bushfires like never before..more ferociuos and more damaging..and more frequent.Windstorms, cyclones, hurricanes like Katrina that destroy whole cities..the Boxing Day Tsnunami in Indonesia.

The dissappearance of plant and animal species lost forever due to changes in climate which sees them unable to adapt. Our reef is dying as are our rainforests.

All this ,and the priority of Australias Government is the 'imagined' importance of the war against terror and the gaping hole left in our budget because of it.

John Howard will not commit to any curbing of greenhouse gas imissions for Australias part and the Kyoto Protocol is treated as a joke.

Will the civilised, so called dominant species on earth see his world crash and burn before his very eyes?

Now Taurus29 ,you cannot blame Tsunamis on the weather. The tetonic plates have always collided and we will continue to have earthquakes and Tsunamis.I think the gravitional pull of the Moon would have a greater effect on earthquakes and the resultant tsunamis.

Some now think that it is the pollution of the oceans which is warming our planet. The oceans make up 66% of our planets surface and can absorb 1000 times more energy than the atmosphere.Colloids or particles in the ocean absorb a lot of energy. We may be barking up the wrong tree.Denuding the landscape of vegetation also adds to the heating of the earth since the energy is not used to produce oxygen, sugar and celluose. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to stop ocean pollution than air pollution due to the burning of fossil fuels.

I agree with you, something is definetly changing in our climate and we had better find the real reasons soon.

How many people do you know who still smoke and won't consider giving up till it's too late? Our science, technology and specialisation have brought us to this point of affluence, but we still won't address problems of over population, and pollution. We are definetly too smart by half.

I think Im certain about the future of the world with leaders like John Howard at the helm..

We are going to experience the destruction of the economy he so proudly and falsley boasts is his one crowning glory.

In the news right now..scientists are warning yet again, about the impact it IS NOW having and yet still he waffles on about crap.

We need action now.
The scientists are regared as the 'boy who cried wolf'..politiciand are not listening.

We are experiencing climate change now.

They are playing games with eth future of our world and most importantly our childrens world.
