The state of Michigan filed a lawsuit in federal court last week against major oil companies including ExxonMobil and Chevron, accusing them of engaging in a decades-long conspiracy to block the development of clean energy and electric vehicles.

There are a number of allegations in the law suit including:

Defendants Have Conspired to Suppress the Development and Deployment of Clean Energy Technologies that Would Have Accelerated Substitution in the Transportation Energy Market.

Defendants Have Acted in Concert to Suppress the Development and Deployment of Technologies for Solar Energy to Compete in the Primary Energy Market.

Exxon Operatives Engaged in Criminal Hacking to Suppress Investigations into Defendants’ Anticompetitive Conduct and Evade Accountability.

But for the Conspiracy, EVs Would Have Reached Scale Years Earlier and Michigan and Its Consumers Would Have Avoided Billions of Dollars in Overcharges on Transportation Energy.

But for the Conspiracy, Primary Energy Types, Such as Solar and Wind Energy, Would Have Reached Scale Years Earlier and Michigan and Its Consumers Would Have Avoided Billions of Dollars in Overcharges.

It's somewhat ironic that Michigan, the leading state for automotive manufacturing in the United States, is suing the oil industry for damages.
