Boring. Over 90% want Australia Day kept at 26th. January.

Hi Nathan,
AUSTRALIA DAY is 1st January, as it was on that day in 1901 Australia became a nation. The 26th January signifies the day in 1788 the British colonisers arrived. No truly patriotic Australian is going to give up a day off from work which he so richly deserves, that being 26th, anyway the first is too close to Christmas hols to be anything special. ttbn did you get the full effects of global warming down there in SA today? I hope so, 45C get used to it, its going to be that hot every year soon. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 26 January 2026 8:17:12 PM

Hi AC, how unpatriotic!
If Australia Day is cancelled what will all those Indian $2 Shops do with their Chinese made Aussie flags, Aussie stubby holders, Aussie thongs, Aussie everything! The Chinese economy depends on it! Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 27 January 2026 8:15:05 AM

Well what is it now anyway
Just a day for people to come out and say 'we're sick of this shite' It's like NYE what are we celebrating when we know next year things will only get worse. Now that's something to raise our glasses to. Hang the flag upside down until we don't have weasel traitor sellouts for leaders. Posted by Armchair Critic, Tuesday, 27 January 2026 11:23:28 AM

It could be said that tiresome squabbles about the date of Australia Day are rather pathetic in a land that is not a single community with an equal love for or pride in that community.
Multiculturalism and a political obsession with “diversity” have seen to that. Australian politicians have tolerated the intolerant; even encouraged the continuation of alien hatreds and disgusting behaviours brought here by immigrants who have never been required to fit in with the host culture, and have been granted citizenship that they are not worthy of. Australians who object to the abuse of their culture and values are branded as “racist” by their own servants, politicians. The Bondi massacre indicates how low Australia has become. The “most successful multicultural country in the world” mantra is sickening. There is no successful multicultural country in the world, least of all Australia. Perhaps the fact that a majority of respondents to polls now support Australia Day as it is - in contrast to the Marxists and aboriginal activists - means that there is a desire for change, even if it is too late. Australia is shot to sh.t. Not only does it have an appallingly bad government, it also has an appallingly bad opposition - if it can still be called an opposition after the latest polls.
So, what about One Nation? Could that happen? Not while we have the uniparty, according to one commentator who cites what has happened in Europe, Germany and Holland in particular, with the two main parties freezing out the equivalents of One Nation. In Germany, the AfD was struck back at by the established parties. They used their intelligence services to designate the AfD as a ‘right wing extremist’ party. Ensuing court challenges worked to increase public suspicion. In the meantime, the Germany equivalent of our uniparty has got together to propose a formal expulsion of the AfD from the German parliament, while they collude to exclude the party from “anything”. That is, freeze out the country's second largest party. Could that happen here? Well, the Liberals have just colluded with Labor on the hate speech laws. Both parties are keen on online censorship. How about Covid? There's no knowing what Labor and Liberal would do to keep out a threat to their traditional power set up, which includes swapping places occasionally and having a rest on the opposition benches. The money is still good. History has shown that uniparties in places other than Australia oppose each other until there is an external threat to both of them. Like never before, both branches of our uniparty will be feeling threatened by One Nation. The gloves will soon be off. And, it is suggested that Labor/Liberal would be able to use their mutually agreed hate speech laws to ban any organisation, including political parties, that they see as a threat. “Hate groups” will be who the home affairs minister says they are. If the uniparty is threatened, nothing will be off limits. Posted by ttbn, Tuesday, 27 January 2026 3:57:38 PM

There are only 365 days in a year & judging by the antics of many, everyone of those days would have an excuse for a reason to object !

For every birth in Australia, two immigrants arrive.
In 2024-25, there were 105,000 births to 310,000 new immigrants. There are still 367,000 unfilled jobs in Australia that mass immigration is not having any effect on. Immigration is a dud when it comes to helping Australia. The only beneficiaries are the immigrants themselves. What they do. How they live, or what they live on, is not recorded. Our fertility rate is 1.45. Replacement rate is 2.1. The uniparty relies on mass immigration of people from any old sh.thole to avoid a depression, but is gradually reducing Australia to being just another sh.thole in the near future. If, as some third-rate economists claim, that immigrants are preferable to birth because they are working age ready to go, why are there more than 300,000 job vacancies despite uncontrolled, mass immigration so loved by the uniparty? All we have to show for mass immigration is division, hatred , and our first terrorist attack since 1915. Well done uniparty! And our worst-Prime Minister-ever prattles on about protecting social cohesion via legislation stopping free speech. All of this politician-caused chaos is against what most Australians want. And yet, some of us still call Australia a “democracy”. UK political commentator, Toby Young, probably gets it right with his, “I fear we’re doomed to live in an increasingly totalitarian society, with the only consolation being the human race will die out within a couple of generations”. I like that pick, mhaze. It's a perfect illustration of the effects of isolation, and what happens to a continent when non-isolated cultures end that isolation.

Two Labor politicians, O'Neil and Bowen, paid tribute to India's Republic Day. Both have electorates with lots of ex-Indian citizens of course; but surely, that wouldn't get them any more votes from constituents who have chosen to leave India and become Australian citizens.

Maybe we should just change Australia Day, to Israel Day since both sides of Parliament seem to get down on their knees and present.
Take the Union Jack off the flag and put a Star of David on it instead. Might as well recognise what we are rather than pretending we're something we're not. Otherwise, NO ZIONIST OCCUPIED GOVERNANCE. Posted by Armchair Critic, Friday, 30 January 2026 4:58:44 AM

"If, as some third-rate economists claim, that immigrants are preferable to birth because they are working age ready to go, why are there more than 300,000 job vacancies despite uncontrolled, mass immigration so loved by the uniparty?"
Economists think money, just like the religious think scripture and a cricketer things batting average. That also means they didn't grow up here and always have memories of their REAL homeland, they don't go to school here, are connect to it in their youth and don't grasp Australia from an early age but come when their worldview is already defined and entrenched, and send some of their money out of the country where it can't continue to circulate within the country.. "why are there more than 300,000 job vacancies" Full employment definition;
"Full employment means the highest level of jobs possible without causing high inflation, where everyone willing and able to work can find a job, though it doesn't mean zero unemployment because frictional (between jobs) and structural unemployment always exist. It's an economic goal where labour resources are fully utilised, creating a balance where wages and prices grow steadily, supporting low, stable inflation." Immigration does not take care of employment completely, if there is a shortage of say doctors, then the "skills" aspect of immigration has to be adjusted to attract doctors. Unfortunately Australia is not the only country seeking skilled migrants. In Australia we have too many old farts drawing undeserved welfare payments in the form of Aged Pensions. Once the Seniors National Service scheme is introduced these malingers will be put to work. Appropriate work of course, I'm sure anyone under the age of 90 can do a spot of road repair, scrub clearing, home duties for the more deserving of us. 300,000 jobs no-one wants to do is drastically different to productive jobs.
Immigration does not solve the productive work crisis as has been proven time after time since the abolition of National Service which fostered the entitlement mentality. Old age pensioners have paid & paid & paid unlike those salary sacrifice & negative gearing opportunists on the Government payroll & investment markets. Incompatible Immigrants are literally 50+% welfare recipients & economic migrants send billions out of the country all of which to the detriment of the Australian & other countries' economies. Changing Australia day won't achieve a thing. The hypocritical whiners can celebrate the same day & call it Goods & Services Benefit Day ! Burning the National flag wouldn't stop the activists if it was changed however, burning the Australian flag resulting in the perpetrator's cancellation of benefits & wages for a month would as would the burning of the indigenous flag ! This Australia Day nonsense could also become less of a division if only genuine Aborigines & Islanders were acknowledged on the Census forms ! Bring out a form with relevant questions to be answered rather than asking & accepting hearsay willy nilly ! Posted by Indyvidual, Friday, 30 January 2026 9:18:45 AM

Indy,
Thanks for the Facebook, the bloke is banging on about people like you. You admitted you are on social welfare and have been since Gough sacked you from your menial PS job in 72'. What's needed is a Seniors National Service so we can squeeze a bit of pay back for us poor suffering taxpayers from the life long malingerers. p/s If you are so against socialism, why have you embedded yourself so firmly into the welfare state? Seems you're the hypocrite! Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 31 January 2026 5:00:03 AM

Paul1405 is the most blatant example yet for keeping the day & the flag as they are !
I wonder how long he/they/them/it would last if left to work for a living after reaching old age pension age ? Ah, yes, Superannuation paid for by Taxpayers to a much higher rate than the pension & salary sacrifice & negative gearing etc would keep him comfortable. Indy,
All these Facebook clips, rather boring. In your case, fled Europe with the Red Army hot on your heels, looking for Nazi collaborators as they were, is that true? What side were you on? Then you arrived in Aussie as a non-citizen refugee fleeing the disaster that your mob had turned Europe into, understandable. If I had done that to my homeland I'd take off as well, just like you. Then you were taken straight to Centrelink for your $1,000 of pocket money, and then around to you new government provided digs, and a well paying job to boot. Maybe your Facebooker friend is right, we gave you too much! What's your story? Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 9 February 2026 9:58:10 PM

Sick of the double standards
Neo-Nazi Joel Davis was arrested in Sydney last November after he invited members of a Telegram social media channel to "rhetorically rape" independent Wentworth MP Allegra Spender. Arguing for bail, Mr Davis's lawyer, Sebastian De Brennan, said the alleged comment made by Mr Davis was not a reference to "actual rape" but rather "academic". "This term … is a philosophical term of art, connoting robust debate or vigorous discourse," Mr De Brennan said. "Mr Davis was not encouraging or inciting for anyone to embark upon what might be construed as real rape at all. "What he is saying was that against the power structure of government, where there is a disproportionate power dis-balance, that a particular politician needs to be rhetorically raped." Are the police to dumb to google 'rhetoric'? You don't even need a dictionary these days. Mr Davis is facing one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment. These are the rules everyone must play by now. This blokes been in jail for 10+ weeks, not sure he's gotten bail or sentenced. Shadow attorney general says it would be unacceptable to ‘effectively knife’ first female Liberal leader – as it happened http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2026/feb/11/politics-liberal-party-spill-sussan-ley-labor-anthony-albanese-herzog-protests-sydney-canberra-melbourne-ntwnfb What sort of example do they wish to set for kids? You've got Donald-suspected-pedophile Trump kidnapping and stealing... And we have the Shadow Attorney General talking about 'effectively knifing' the opposition leader. Neo-Nazi knocked back in latest bail bid over 'rhetorical rape' call https://www.9news.com.au/national/neonazis-defiant-vow-in-bail-bid-over-rape-charge/bda13220-ab0c-4118-aaaf-0e805ce19654 "A reasonable inference would be ... Davis was not encouraging or inciting anyone to embark on what might be construed as real rape." No more political assassin talk. Make it unlawful and make politicians face the same scrutiny. Charge the Deputy Attorney General Andrew Wallace Make him do 10+ weeks in jail with bail consistently denied and a 5 year sentence hanging over his head and let him argue to a judge that he didn't actually plan on 'knifing' anyone. Are we playing innocent until proven guilty? Or guilt until proven innocent? Posted by Armchair Critic, Thursday, 12 February 2026 2:30:57 AM

The truth is that the arrival of the Europeans was a disaster for those living here at the time and for generations beyond human memory.
Others want to celebrate the day as a creation of Australia as a nation and what it stands for today.
So there are differing views.
Some though believe we should get rid of Australia Day itself, a day not to celebrate at all, given the way Aboriginal people have been treated over many years. I'm not sure if we need to go that far, but I am open with more detail provided.
So, do we need to consider changing the date for Australia Day? Remove the day altogether? Celebrate the day as it is? Your comments appreciated.
