Jews had been a minority in Palestine for many of those years and at one point there was as few as 2 thousand in total.
In the year 1800 there was 7000 Jews and 246000 Muslims.

FYI, my criticism of Israel doesn't mean support for Islam.
But I do support the Palestinians to have their own state, fight their oppressors, and live free.
To me it's a human rights and national sovereignty issue not a religious one.
I won't support the existing people living there to be genocided and expelled just because Israel wanted to re-establish their own state.

The modern State of Israel sold itself as a 'land without a people for a people without a land', but that just wasn't true.
