Hi Bezza,
There is always exceptions to the rule, your 95 year old is an example. When people sit for a driving test, they don't always display their usual driving habits, for example the hoon driver doesn't do burn-outs with the examiner sitting next to him. The test may not be a real indication of a persons actual normal driving. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 18 July 2025 5:52:36 AM

This happened near where I live, I drive under this 1.9m bridge almost everyday. Just as some are too old to drive, others may well be too young. Driving on our roads is a big responsibility, and I don't think enough people take that responsibility seriously enough.

WOW! There is a large 5 way roundabout near me, on a bright and sunny morning (sun rising in the east). As I approached the roundabout an Old Fart, appeared to be an Octo (80's) at least, possibly even a Nona (90's), I don't think he was a Cento (100's). Coming on my right and heading East, the Old Fart come to a dead stop, straining with eyes shaded by one hand, what did the old coot think he was doing, he couldn't see out the windscreen, due to the sun shine! Fortunately cars traveling behind were able to avoid running into the silly old fool an avoided a rear-ender!
p/s There is a place for these elderly drivers and their old cars, its called the WRECKING YARD! Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 22 July 2025 5:16:41 AM

Well Paul, I experienced that exact same problem a couple of days ago
and had to come to a near stop on a roundabout because I simply could not see if a car was coming out of the sun where the next entry to the roundabout coincided with the sun and further more I could not see exactly where the roundabout was. My solution was to go very slow and look out to the right to get my bearings. I now realise this is an annual event when the sun is very low. I wonder if anyone has studied accidents at roundabouts at this time of year ? Posted by Bezza, Sunday, 27 July 2025 4:39:12 PM

recently and passed for an unrestricted licence, no specticals required
and he is 95. His parking place a garage, is awkward to enter but he
manages ok.
He tells me that he is more cautious these days and one day he gave me
a lift to the shopping centre and his driving seemed perfectly normal.
It really is horses for courses.
