Beyond the blue (Avatar, 2009)

Of all the reviews I’ve read on the 2009 motion picture Avatar, almost all acknowledged the brilliant art direction and aesthetically beautiful screen production, but few had anything to say about the narrative.

James Cameron, a visionary, is not new to the sci-fi scene; he is a brilliant movie director, and in my view an equally brilliant screen-writer.

Anyone who has been marginilised in life, who has had their ethnicity and cultural identity compromised, transformed or ‘acculturated’; whose home country has been invaded, and traditions threatened, can identify with the people of Pandora.

The story line is easily a metaphor for lost generations world wide (whether Native Americans, Indigenous Australians, or in more recent years, country-less Palestinians).

Leading a battle against the people of Pandora, Colonel Miles Quaritch addresses his troops and says “We are fighting terror with terror”…Is that a line out of Avatar, or U.S. policy? I can’t tell the difference.

The point being, for those who care to look beyond the blue, there is an important message to be told.

The true story of Pandora is unraveling today. Sacred societies world wide are being hijacked, innocent civilians whose cultural traditions are dissimilar to that of the West are being buried, and the world is being urged to takes sides. In the words of G.W.B. “either you are with us, or against us”.

The truth is, a motion picture featuring a real life Pandora scenario would reek of the colour red (for blood shed) and not blue; because in reality, the Aliens never return home in the end. They succeed in occupying lands that are not their own, and convince the rest of the world that these people are a threat to democracy

It is obviously a brilliant movie.

Here we are told of the terrified Chinese authorities, protecting their people from its message.

While across the world, it is panned for being too... left wing?

Clearly, Chinese Communism is now literally indistinguishable from American Capitalism.
