Corporations: there is nothing wrong with the profit motive when it is balanced out by a human moral compass.

An excellent piece.
Personally, I have always been in favour of Capitalism -when it is young and fresh.
Like any competition, the longer it goes, the more contestants drop out, or are bought out, merged with or destroyed, until only the canniest, or more often the most ruthless and unscrupulous are left.
That's where we are today, Ladies and Gentlemen. Competition on any notion of fairness is a thing of the past. Instead of being offered a genuine choice, we are told (no longer asked) to take the sh!t we are given, and smile while we eat it.
Even in politics the choices are vanishing. Can anyone really tell the difference between right wing Labor, and left wing Liberal?
Both parties have embraced either economic rationalism or neoliberalism; two terms for the same policies.
Goodbye Capitalism, hello Corporatism.

In almost any arena, the hard hand of corporations is visible...Monsanto's ownership of seeds and their control over governments, farmers and food around the world; the pharmaceutical companies creating false crises while ignoring the millions that die because they can't afford simple but ridiculously expensive vaccines; the coal industry's almost complete control over both parties (did anyone see Q&A - the Minerals Council, the ALP [the supposed left!! of the ALP] and the coalition all cosily agreeing on the need for coal); the financial and banking systems, mining, transport - you name it, we know who runs the show. And yet all of us who are victims of this corporacracy - the best democracy big money can buy - do nothing to undo this insane state of affairs. Some simple steps might help. Remove the standing of corporations as entitites or individuals under law; restore limited charters for corporations, ensure liability for boards for any criminal acts and change the legislative purposes of corporations so that they must be responsible to more than their shareholders...

A very good article one I have to concur with.
It is interesting to note that the nay sayers to this article are using the imfamous political techniques.

Answer the question they want to answer not the one proposed.
I.e. the author DIDN'T say anything about abolishing Capitalism merely that without morality (controls) corps run amok.

Answer by extremes as if there is no other possible outcome(scare tactics).

Answer selectively by reduction to the ridiculous.

These techniques aren't discussion they are symptoms of Galloping Inertia (fear of changing anything).
