The trains are clean, cleaners come through regularly and the system
covers most of Sydney except the Warringah area. However that area
votes liberal so they are not even on the list.
The Metro scheme is a poor way to spend money as it will cover
existing bus and rail services.
The standard heavy rail should be extended out to the North West as
originally planned.
I use the Melbourne system several times a year and find it adequate
although not in peak hours usually.
For the life of me I just do not understand why Melbourne has not
built a line into the airport. The Sydney airport line now gets much
better use than it did originally.
However as airlines and airports are an infrastructure that is on
borrowed time, so perhaps it is too late to build it now.
I think the loading gauge does not permit double deck cars on the
Melbourne system.
Many stations in Sydney are on curves and then it
is necessary to have guards for safety reasons.
