Obama is a competent, charismatic George W Bush : Comments

By John Passant, published 11/6/2009

President Barack Obama's Cairo speech to US puppets and dictators in the Muslim world was full of sophistry and deceit.

It's good to see Obama garnering criticism from both left and right. That means he's doing ok.

By and large, I've agreed with Obama's policies, with three exceptions:

1) The use of Afghanistan's Bagram prison to suspend civil liberties (if it was just prisoners of war, that would be understandable. He's taking prisoners from many countries and giving them no right to trial. It's the same as Guantanamo but further away. What's worse is he's arguing to keep it that way).
2) He's fighting to stop people from ever suing the US government for breaches of the Patriot Act, and wanting to continue the use of wiretaps on the American public with little or no oversight.
3) The scope and manner his stimulus packages are being used.

However, I think overall he's doing a good job. It's the diehard extremists who want him to be hard left or hard right who tend to bother me with their unrealistic fantasies.

"I'll always stand with the oppressed" states Passant.

Sounds nice. It translates to "I'll support the losing side, regardless of their morality."

Technically, once the Nazis were losing the war, they're the 'oppressed' languishing in POW camps. Does that mean we switch sides? There are many shades of grey.
Passant attacks Obama because people are dying in Afghanistan.

People are dying from heroin overdoses thanks to poppies manufactured in Afghanistan. If we can stop that, and help the country out, wouldn't that be a good thing?

But Passant rules out any kind of action anywhere really.

"Israel is a racist state bent on the genocide of the Palestinian people."

Rubbish. Both sides are guilty. I accept Israel makes mistakes but to gloss over the suicide bombers and attacks from Hamas is disgusting.

Obama's playing a delicate game, now pressuring the Israelis into ceding settlements that they really don't want to. He's supporting the Palestinians more than the previous administration did.

But no. This piece asks all or nothing. Frankly, it's shallow, and almost every solution in actuality would result in chaos.

The world isn't the simplistic 1960s socialistic struggle described here.

John Passant is a bootlicking Islamist and not a true socialist.

This is how the true socialists deal with jihadists http://sheikyermami.com/2009/04/27/chechnya-how-the-russians-deal-with-the-jihad/

Using drones to kill extremists is about as effective as hoping a meteor hitting someone.

The Corporates who control the US Govt [Fed Res] have started something thye cannot finish.Ron Paul now has almost 50% support form Congress to Audit the US Federal Reserve.China Russia and India are getting together on the 16th June in Brazil, to plan a new international currency that will replace the $US.This will put another nail in the coffin of these Global Banksters who have engineered this crisis.

Pay special notice to Zbigneiw Brezezinski. He is Obama's foreign affairs dictator. If Zbigneiw is not controlled,he will escallate the war in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is the most dangerous man on the planet and Obama endorses him.

After all the Right’s scaremongering about Obama ending civilization as we know it, I find it comforting that he is still committed to getting the Taliban out of Afghanistan.

History aside - including shamefully shortsighted past gameplays by the Americans - Afghanistan today is a fight for or against civilization, endemic tribalism and corruption being dismaying distractions.

You write of "innocent women and children being killed by drones in Pakistan". What about innocents killed or monstered by the Taliban and Al-Quaida? Haven't you noticed the wave of popular anger against the Taliban in Pakistan, out of revulsion at their inhumanity?

You write "I support the violence of the oppressed against the violence of their oppressors." So you support the mullah-oppressed people of Iran? And the female half of the Muslim world? No, I thought not. Too much a distraction from your real agenda, which is unceasing hostility to the United States and the West generally.

You people of the far Left always end up opening the way to far more oppression than you profess to oppose. To quote Nick Cohen ('What's Left?'):

"In the rubble of the far left … a rival standard developed that was anything but a principled call for universal freedom.

"Its adherents used the end of the Cold War to embrace a kind of nihilism. They could break the old taboos that had stopped them from supporting the ideas and movements of the extreme right, and endorse or excuse any foreign force as long as it was the enemy of Western democracy.

"...the claims of a portion of the Left to possess a sceptical intelligence [have been] destroyed by its inability to look squarely at a cult of death.

"If the … leftists are wrong ... history will judge them harshly. For they will have gazed on the face of a global fascist movement and shrugged and turned away, not only from an enemy that would happily have killed THEM, but from an enemy which was already killing those who had every reason to expect their support."

Obama's greatest failure is to have accepted the official fiction of 9/11 and not to have opened a new inquiry in order to establish the truth about the events leading up to that day and of the day itself.

Fortunately, New York City Council has the right to conduct its own investigation into 9/11. 60,005 residents of New York City have signed a petition to call upon New York City Council to put to the ballot in November that there be a new inquiry with subpoena powers into 9/11.

Theoretically New York City Council can still refuse to hold the ballot, but most (66%) of New Yorkers favour a new inquiry. If New York City still refuses, the New York City Coalition for Accountability Now (http://www.nyccan.org/) are resolved to obtain howeve many more signatures that are necessary to force NYC to hold the ballot. My understanding is that if they get 75,000 signatures NYC will have to hold the ballot.

If the vote for a new inquiry is carried, hundreds of witnesses whose evidence was ignored by the 9/11 Commission and NIST will be able to testify and have their evidence acknowledged and dealt with and those who so abysmally failed to protect the US public on 11 September 2001 including former President Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice and former New York City Mayor Rudolph (Rudi) Giuliani, will be made to explain themselves.

For further information, visit the web site of the the New York City Coalition for Accountability Now (NYC CAN) at http://www.nyccan.org/ and be sure to spend 50 seconds to watch the broadcast of Jean Canavan, Bob McIlvaine and Manny Badillo, who all lost family members on that day asking questions, which were not answerd by the 9/11 Commission or the NIST enquiry. (Also look on YouTube for the broadcast at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzC3QI8JenU )
