Good article, what a worry that memorials of this kind are the driving force of a nation.
Pete, couldn't we just keep our heads down and not draw attention to ourselves, for a change. The world just may not be ready for us to be out there trying to lead by example on everything populist. Posted by rpg, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 10:28:24 AM

The North Korean test is the “meme” that will destroy President Obama’s new foreign policy based on diplomacy with America’s irreconcilable enemies such as Iran. The doors of diplomacy that Obama is opening to the Mullahcratic regime and its sundry of proxies will close with a bang in the face of the rookie president in foreign affairs.

Yes, North Korea's is a demented regime following its own perverse logic. The problem is that the only way of putting pressure on the country is by China and Japan throttling them economically. Both China and Japan are clearly reluctant to do so, probably because half of the population would starve to death before a reaction by the regime - and that reaction may well be a suicide attack on South Korea now with a nuclear weapon.
Really, what can be done with such a regime? Posted by gero101, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 9:45:09 PM

I can predict how the Export uranium to China" ALP peaceniks in Australia will react to this test explosion. They will blame the US. They will say "lets be nice to North Korea and Australia has a role in mediation"
Far from reality and truth.
Pete
