Rather than abolish Tourism Queensland, the State Government should give it more resources.

So what if the tourism industry is doing it tough - so are a lot of other industries, and households. As the world enters its worst recession since the 1930s governments have better things to spend money on than advertising gold coast resorts.

I hope the Queensland Government implements the recommendation’s review. There is no reason for taxpayers to spend tens of millions of dollars researching and promoting an industry that should stand or fall on its own merits. If there is some value in the government running advertising campaigns promoting the industry, let it recoup the costs from the profits it generates.

Is there any evidence at all that the Queensland community as a whole has benefited from its generous support of interstate and overseas holidaymakers?

Do I really understand tourism.
Is it when people travel to another country burning fuel to get there,
spend money and then return burning more fuel.
Then people from the other country come to the first country, spend money and return burning more fuel.
It is the same money.
Sounds like taking in each others washing,a stupid idea.
Close it down.
Only a few people in the industry benefit.
Can't run a world that way.
