The Middle East will prove a tough nut to crack for Barack Obama. But listening to Muslims is a good start.

VK3AUU,

You say >> “In both cases they will continue their push to get rid of the invaders.”

Obviously you have missed the fact that the war in Iraq is basically over. We won. The US will be pulling their troops out over the next year or two. The hearts and minds WERE changed in Iraq. They decided they didn’t want Al-Qaida’s brand of Islamo Facism. They also decided at the last election they weren’t interested in the sectarianism that Iran was offering. A double win for the coalition.

You say >> “In Afghanistan, the West will ultimately find that the end is never in sight and they will withdraw as did the British and the Russians before them. They not only have to deal with the Taliban, but also with the warlords whose allegiances are to no one and certainly not to America.”

Firstly, if you knew ANYTHING about military history you would know that the parallels between the British and Russian experiences in Afghanistan and those of the US/NATO are almost nonexistent.

You say >> “In Afghanistan, the West will ultimately find that the end is never in sight and they will withdraw”

You have singularly failed to acknowledge that this is what the ignorant loony left said about Iraq too. AND THEY WERE WRONG. Weren’t they

Paul'l seems you are still not looking behind much of the bulldust news we've been getting over the last year.

Please to remember, mate, we have a new President, who I believe he will do his damndest to get to the real truth.

That is why I have been for years using the opinions of journo's like Bob Woodward, Ron Susskind, David Ignatious and just lately Patrick Tyler.

You've already been told how the true version of the Surge was about a deal done between Saddam's former Shiek's, the same Sheiks now threatening they will spill the beans if they don't get what they were promised, strong positions in the Iraqi mixed up Shia, Kurd< Sunni leadership when the Americans leave

don"t you ever read the real news behind the news< paul
