By Bruce Stokes, published 6/2/2009

From Middle East to Asia, intractable problems await President Barack Obama's bold initiatives.

The columnist Charles Krauthammer in his latest piece in the Washington Post with a hammer in his hand nails on the notice boards of America what a hoax Obama is. His presidency is not the Second Coming of Camelot, as his liberal acolytes hoped, but the Second Coming of the weak Jimmy Carter. And Obama as President will have just enough strength to crack the peanuts that the former was farming.

My initial reaction to this article was to say that, as the President of the USA, none of these issues are Obama's problem. But the reality is that they actually are his problem. After decades of getting involved (some would say interfering) in the problems of the world, America is necessarily tied to so many other countries' situations. What a blessing it will be for American presidents when (as will inevitably happen one day) their nation is no longer the world's superpower. Then they will be able to focus on ruling a nation rather than ruling the world.

Spot on again. The bloke's a weakling and one who lack's the basic integrity of Carter. That means he's dangerous.

But the article was also a fake. The biggest single issue in the Middle east was ignored.

Iraq.

Bush has left Obama with a won war. And after this weeks elections a country on the verge of completely adopting a democracy that has far more in common with western liberal democracies than has Israel. An Iraq independent of Iran and that significantly weakens Iran's influence in the region. An Iraq allied by treaties (That ensure continued US bases and a presence in Iraq)to the US. An Ally far more potent than Saudia Arabia or Israel as an agent for real change in the mid east. It would not surprise for Syria to also start bold steps toward liberalisation and abandonment of it's socialist policies.

It would be senseless of Obama to overlook and not use this great opportunity left by George Bush.

I had to laugh yesterday. I was talking with someone who hated George Bush. When I pointed out his success in Iraq. I was told George was dumb. I pointed out he was academically the best qualified President ever.
I was told, he was inarticulate. I was told as an example a doctor with a poor bedside manner wasn't really a doctor.

When I said then it follows with that thinking then a person with Cerebral Palsey wasn't really a person ... I was castigated as unfeeling.

The lefties are really really an odd mob, and they'll never acknowledge any of the good of George W. Bush.

I absolutely agree with your assessment of Iraq and judgment on Bush. Iraq will be a STRATEGIC victory for America, especially if it consolidates its democratic structure as it seems to be doing.

The leftist crowd is incurable as it lacks the intellectual strength to break the shackles of its collectivist barren thinking.

It's always an immense pleasure to see a kindred spirit 'in-between the-lines.'

P.S. If you can spare the time you can click on:

I am on record as predicting this result before tghe surge and at the outset of the invasion. Of course the lefties shouted me down ... and buggar me they appear to have shot through so I can't rub their collective noses in the success.

I visited your site recently.

There will be losers. Iran, Israel and the hate Bush brigade.
