This article highlights as few do, the problem of 'salvation by law' ... where in this case I'm using the term 'salvation' in a broader than the usual focused biblical concept.
Paul discusses in great detail the issue of Law v Grace. He was a Pharisee.. a sect which prided itself on a knowledge of the Hebrew/Mosaic law, but they had gone much further. They had added volumes of extra traditions to try to cope 'by law' with every conceivable human situation.
Unfortunately, such an approach to life ends up with a library of code worse than the Tax law.
There are limits to how much of life we can 'legislate'. Without meaning to specifically 'bash' Islam here, it is a religion very much like that of the Pharisees.. strong on 'ritual' and light on grace.
They have proscribed methods of entering a bathroom... and how to tie your shoes... and many others.
THE PROBLEM.... is shown here (the article) where they are trying to define 'human'... 'human like'..... etc The Rabbi's of the Babylonian Talmud period wanted a "law" for everything also, and because the Law of Moses did not specifically state "The Age" of marriage..they concluded that 'intercourse with a child of 3 yrs and 1 day' would seal a betrothal.
This is one of the reasons Jesus taught as He did
-"Love God with all your heart" and
-"Love your neighbour as yourself"
It covers everything. It is a tragedy of immeasurable proportions when a society has sunk so low that many of it's members will use the absense of 'law' to exploit the weak and vulnerable to satisfy their own carnal cravings.
THE SOLUTION: Is not really 'more law' but more love. It is when a community is bound to it's creator and each other by love and an appreciation of His grace and forgiveness
