Rules intended to protect workers and citizens have been put into legislation but those rules are seldom enforced.

Hi PolyCarp.
Problem with invoking the "Good book" is that it is the same book that Jonny Howard and George Bush supposedly use. They both claim to be very Christian, and so their morals are driven by this book.
Did this stop Jonny lying through his teeth and supporting the mass murder of Iraq? Did GW have moral qualms about global kidnap and torture? Too many folk doing evil using the same book.
The lesson is that economics is too tricky for religion to be involved. Too many counter-intuative factors that need an experts understanding, not glib platitudes.
Back on topic: Capital and Labour used to be pretty balanced in Australia, but modern times mean that Labour is falling behind. How can a laborer compete with better machines and cheap asian labour? When governments no longer encourage real industry (ones that generate new wealth, not the phoney profits of the financial "industry"), the powerful can just exploit the poor.
I am hoping that folks remember who was in charge when the current cycle was over cooked: Capital (ie. the Libs), not Labour!

Well the article is about self interest Polycarp but do you think you won a new follower with that?
Self interest my self interest is the growth of unionism, by constant improvement.
Here is a true life story that proves not every union action is positive.
I uncovered under payments of $350 owing to about 60 workers.
Just after I made a claim ALL union non union and the other union not mine be paid.
The other radical official said that is not the way I do it.
If they join my union I will get them paid!
I got every one paid but ask what drives that bloke fairness or some hidden thing?
