With her patent lack of a working knowledge of foreign affairs, Sarah Palin would be a liability not just to America, but to the world.

I continue to wonder why so much space is devoted to the US election on online opinion when so few American citizens, who are the only ones who can vote, would read it.

Nevertheless, those interested in the real facts behind Governor Palin's selection as Vice Presidential candidate should read Spengler at:

You will find that Palin is quite different to the image portrayed in the leftist media.

Bearing in mind that human politics and culture is esentialy irrational it is impossible to predict who would be a good leader in a time of crisis.

But somehow it seems to me that it is preferrable to try to act and conduct our affairs on the basis of some kind of well reasoned and carefully considered basis.

To be the President of the USA (especially at this time in history) is to be the focus of both the hopes and destiny, and even survival of the entire inter-connected human family.

George Bush gave us the manichean apocalyptic politics described in Monsters To Destroy by Ira Chernus.

The axis of evil---we are the exceptional good guys, and "they" represent pure "evil". When we have cleansed the world of evil everything will be hunky-dory again in Norman Rockwell's sunny afternoon

Palin and McCain are giving us the politics as described in the related books The Political Brain and The Political Mind.

Me-thinks both McCain and Palin (or is that Pain) would continue in this line--and even more so. Because they represent, pander to, and encourage or enliven an extremely psychotic emotionally primitive strain in USA politics and "culture". An emotionally based nativistic primitivism which is full of murderously reasonable demands and intentions.

Two relevant quotes.

"This time...the barbarians are not waiting beyond the frontier, they have already been governing for quite some time" -- from After Virtue by Alasdair MacIntyre

"To allow the market mechanism to be sole director of the fate of human beings and their natural environment....would result in the demolition of society" -- from The Great Transformation by Karl Polanyi

Following on from the second quote, the USA now has no culture. Only a media created and driven spectacle.

Palin "culturally conservative?"

I would be very surprised if the
lady knew what those words meant,
or how to spell them.

I agree with Pericles. It is
frightening. And I too am not
usually that concerned about
American politics. But after
George W's term in office, and now
the chance of a worse tsunami to hit
the world scene with McCain and Palin.
I am concerned.

All I can hope is that sanity and
good judgement prevails when the Americans
cast their votes.

Although, I'm not betting on it.
After all as the bumper stickers say:

"Vote Republican, it's easier than thinking!"

God Bless America...
She'll need all the help she can get under
McCain and Palin.

Ho Hum thanks for the quotes. It gives me the chance to offer the following.
Firstly something for the bushites, who just can’t get enough of kickin’ ass.

"A democracy which makes or even effectively prepares for modern, scientific war must necessarily cease to be democratic. No country can be really well prepared for modern war unless it is governed by a tyrant, at the head of a highly trained and perfectly obedient bureaucracy."

Aldous Huxley

I mean, who wants war? Ask any vet and he’ll tell you anyone who’s been there and seen the real thing wouldn’t.

Next, something from the Karl Rove handbook. Sarah’s been on this particular tack lately, claiming that as Obama wants to talk to America’s enemies he doesn’t see America the same way that Republicans see America. It was written by a monster but no-one disputes he was the best at what he did.

"Naturally the common people don't want war...that is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Hermann Goering

This last is my favourite, for obvious reasons.

"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

H. L. Mencken

It turns out the more Palin speaks the more popular Obama becomes. According to polls he’s ahead in states that haven’t voted democrat since the 60’s

That's why they have advisors. What's important is that she is culturally conservative - she believes in God and strives to follow Jesus' example.^

Believes in God?.
And that is a reason to vote FOR her?.
Does she also believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?.
Bush is a Christian.What a looser.
