By Josh Fear, published 26/9/2008

At what point did baby boomer politicians abandon the principles they fought so hard for in their younger days?

This article was so bad i almost agree with everything Col had to say.
Regarding Politicians, the latest crop of early 30's types on all sides appear to stand for little more than being in Parliament.

For those who make the assertion that the Baby Boomers have not forgotten their roots I invite you to read.

I achieved an ENTER in the top 0.30% of the country. I opted to study Medicine at The University of Melbourne. My parents have a combined pre-tax income of mildly above 60K and as a result it was deemed that I needed no centrelink help to fund the 10-15K per annum accommodation costs that relocating to Melbourne incurred.

As generous as my parents are, the mortgage and sibling costs meant that those costs could hardly be covered. My education, general health and happiness were at great peril. I've chosen to borrow money and take up studentships with great restrictions on my future in order to survive.

For a country with a decade worth of successive budget surpluses and enough cash to simply give people money for having babies, I find this approach utterly stupefying. How corrupt and venal have we become that we have betrayed the very tenet of the civilisation that gave us everything we have?

In years to come I suspect that the minerals boom will run its course and the wealth we failed to create will be sorely missed. The Asian economies will outstrip us by miles due to years of heavy and systematic investment in education and training that was strategically aimed at a changing world.

Today’s baby boomer politicians may be unappealing but I can assure you that it's nothing to the leaders of the future we are creating.

When your kids are struggling to get token, menial jobs in a broken and bereft economy that failed when its people did, they’ll hardly make sounder choices at the polls. It is an environment rife for tyrants, militias and the sort of moribund existences that we see in Africa and indigenous Australia.

So well done Baby Boomers. Well done. And here I commence for the next 40 years of my life to watch the slow decline you guys set up. I hope you are proud. Because you had the lives that we just can’t
