Great stuff including the last brief paragraph.

Of course none of that will be mentioned in the current Presidential election (ERECTION) campaign---my dick is bigger than yours.

Barack Obama has tried to raise questions re this topic but immediately gets howled down for being un-patriotic and even anti-American.

No real questions allowed in the ERECTION campaign. Just fake emotionally manipulative slogans, especially from the McCain camp.

And statements of fact taken completely out of context and turned around to "mean" the complete opposite of what the speaker originally intended.

Obama gets criticised for his early association with Saul Alinsky---who broke no laws and was exercising his supposedly free democratic right to advocate and organise different options---options other than the isolated nuclear family and its infinite loneliness---described by Philip Slater in his classic The Pursuit of Loneliness

Options which have now been labelled as "subversive" or unpatriotic by Sarah Palin

Yet those on the right are all enthusiastic supporters of the School of the Americas (murder incorporated) which was responsible for the murder of tens of thousands of "leftists" throughout Central and South America during the Reagan years. And the breaking of various USA laws--even subversion of the constitution. http://www.soaw.org

And yet Obama is the "dangerous radical"!

there's going to be a new cottage industry among the intelligentsia: "where america went wrong", explained in books and media articles.

in fact america went wrong in 1789, with the publication of the constitution. not surprising, they were british, and britain went wrong when hastings hill was in the evening news. they in turn are entitled to blame adam and eve.

humans live in an environment that is chiefly other humans, and power over others is possible and desirable. most of our troubles begin here. when one person, or a few like-minded people, can set mighty armies in motion, mighty injustice will be done, mighty rage engendered, mighty revenge extracted, and endless wars result.

another reason for democracy: when war can only begin by citizen referendum, the voter and the fighter are the same. this impedes the desire for glory, among the fighter's mothers who also vote.

bacevich is putting a view of national policy before the world more in accord with reality, but it's just 'a living'. too late for iraq, too late for afghanistan, and certainly to late to turn america into a switzerland. the american empire will continue it's path into history, not at all concerned by the writing of bacevich, who is just making a living. others are still making a living by supporting the bush regime, and as long as money is available, they will continue.

one consequence of 'command' societies is submissive populations. they won't read either sort of writer, just pay their taxes in support of empire, and be conscripted when they can't avoid it. kings, presidents and dictators have dined out on this submissive character for along time.

Humans made a great leap forward when they domesticated animals.
Which animal was the most valuable do you think? Cows, horses, sheep, goats?.....No, *humans* were the most valuable animal that was domesticated, and still are.
We need Good to replace God and Authority...
No idea how to do it though!
