I accept your comments colinsett.
I am just frustated with lower population advocates not connecting the two demands on our resources, population numbers and extravagent use by the developed world.
Obviously I should not have included you in that group. Sorry.

It is easy to point at examples of senseless waste in our own society, so many of the more politically correct believe that all we need to do is treat the Third World more fairly, and share and care a bit more, and the problem will be fixed. The truth is that there simply isn't enough to go around to give everyone a decent standard of living, even if we did these things. The global population is continuing to grow at about 75 million a year.

Starting with the 1940s, a number of governments and NGOs, but especially the Rockefeller Foundation and the US government, instituted the program of research that led to the Green Revolution. This doubled, and in some cases tripled, the amount of grain that a hectare of land would yield. Some countries, notably South Korea and Taiwan, were able to take advantage of this, add heroic efforts of their own, and pull themselves out of dire poverty and into the First World. Others simply put the gains into more babies. Why does Geoff think that this wouldn't happen again? There are now twice as many Ethiopians as when Bob Geldoff was making his heart rending appeals for famine aid in the early 1980s.
