TRUE – you believed my disability to stand in the way of my positive performance. It just shows that even people in the disability sector have negative stereotypes concerning people with severe disabilities.
HOWEVER, the research you should have done would have told you that I had completed my thesis in 5 years, equivalent with the full-time pass-rate of the able-bodied ‘norm’. For which I received a level one pass result (post 85%). The thesis ‘The political economy of disablement: A sociological analyses’ featured a large chapter on ‘The political economy of employment for people with disabilities’ that has been the foundation of many presentations and articles
THE JOB – was for 8 hours a week, which could be worked at from home over the internet. From my recollection the job was for an under-paid conference convener type dealing with a conference on ‘Disability and Employment’.

Peter :
your recollection is correct it was a typical underpaid temporary job paid for by limited funding in the community/disability sector. All the candidates for this position had disabilities. The successful candidate was already involved with our program. I am sorry we didn't provide you with a springboard for your career.
Severe disabilities such as yours do mean that things have to be done differently. That will require real understanding by all parties to an employment arrangement and with ongoing adjustments on both sides- not easy particularly with short term employment
