Michael the Tradeable Energy Quotas is a good idea. However, it is unnecessary to solve the problem.

What I tried to do was to point out that all forms of carbon trading, emissions permits etc. are unnecessary. Let us get them out of our minds as there is a simpler way. Whether trading will work or how it will work does not matter if there is a better way of solving the problem.

We have to invest in renewables. That is what carbon trading in all its forms is trying to encourage.

Another way of encouraging investment is to tag some money that can ONLY be used to invest in renewables. This is such a simple idea that according to Occam it likely to be effective.

Farmers who are determined to remove carbon sink perennial native vegatation including grasses, scubby species and trees ,to take advantage of the high prices for carbon expensive annual grain crops should receive cash for a more environmentally responsible attitude to carbon dioxide production .

As it is now, clearing is continuing at a great rate ,particularly in marginal areas and we could well see large areas of important habitat cleared to grow fuel.

Unfortunately if we do not support responsible farming and farming families we will see the pressure increasing on farmers to mine their land for whatever brings the highest prices with scant regard for future generations .

The federal and State Governments must give Farmers tradable carbon credits for native vegetation retained.
