Talisman Saber and Australia’s Guam connection : Comments

By Zohl dé Ishtar, published 23/5/2007

If Guam is the US’s 'tip of the spear' then Australia’s role is to prepare the hand that throws the spear.

The point of the article is surely that Australia's sacred soil is about to be desecrated by Talisman Saber and that Australia's moral integrity is compromised as long as the Guam connection continues,
and Austalia is used as the training ground for the use of lethal weapons and co-operates with America in the continued build-up of forces in the Asia-Pacific region with the evitable escalation of violence in the region. We are co-operating in our own demise as long as we continue to prepare for war. It can never lead to peace, but only increased violence, as is currently being demonstrated in Iraq and elsewhere. But we have a choice, and many are no longer prepared to tolerate such policies, and are motivated not by power, but by the recognition that our soil is sacred and our nation is worthy of much better government, and much wiser choices.

America just does not get "It". The rest of the world is not interested in their lust for our dwindling, fossil fuel supplies nor their distaste for other peoples lands and cultures. We try to instill "respect" into our children but on the world stage, USA leads by the example of "submit totally to me and I will take care of you".
I love Australia, God created it and I have spent my life enjoying His creation. I simply cannot accept letting the USA shell, bomb, trample and pollute the crap out of it. Just to practice subjugating some other, struggling but water/oil rich peoples.
Michael Leunig [The Age - May 26,2007] had better words than I.
"Such spiritual poverty. Such illness of the soul. Such morbidity. Oh dear Australia - doomsday was yesterday - can't you see? The death that is feared is the death that has already happened.

Given current and growing sentiment towards isolationism in the USA, Australians need to be careful what they wish for.

As it currently stands, Australia has almost NO defense forces of their own. 40 year old F-111 junkers are their air force. Submarines that sound like underwater marching bands. Not even any coast guard. ALL Australian defense comes from their relationship with the USA. Should Indonesia decide one day that Australia should be invaded by them, Australia has NO capacity to repel any invasion.

Should Americans withdraw military support, the multi-billions it will cost Australians to defend themselves will result in a collapse of their generous, socialist-type welfare state where every lazy person that chooses not to work gets $40K per year and 15 year old girls are given $5000 for every out-of-wedlock child they can whelp.

Be careful what you wish for, Australians!
