Dualism of the UN is a very subtle pattern, to all the good and evil surrounding this organization.

As I mentioned on these pages already, assembling a planetary diplomatic forum with charitable and military functions is perhaps the strongest weakness of this organization.

The United Nations is a reflection of ourselves.

How can we improve our role through advocacy and civic engagement protocols?

How can we lobby our government(s) harder and better to at honour the 0.07% quota. Yes... I mean those Millennium Development Goals. We need to do more to fund at least, the worlds "basic needs".

At present Australia pay's a certain allocation on time, (we are told) but this allocation is well below the agreed quota and less (in real terms) than we did five years ago... yet the responsiblities of the UN, to protect the needs of others, has dramatically increased.

Yes the UN's needs reform... like most government organisations everywhere. We as are most nations, are slipping behing the demands of modern society... WHY?

A damn good piece. For all criticism of the structure of the UN there is little acknowledgement of the good works that are done on the ground.

I also find it interesting that many of the people who damn the UN as useless and ineffective, are against stripping security council veto powers from countries such as the US, which would certainly make the UN far more capable of action.
