It is time to get law reform back on track as a national priority.

Are we likely to see changes to our legal/judiciary system while so many politicians have used it as the sprinboard to get where they are? I doubt it. Perhaps when 3/4 of the population are appearing in court without legal representation to try to get the justice they are entitled to, will those with the power to amend it will do so.

Dear Plantaganet,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your comment.

I don't think I'm being too hard on George. Anybody who writes for this site or posts messages to it wants to share their opinions. It's often critical to know where a person is coming from, and this is especially the case when a person is a member of a political party, and even more especially the case when they are commenting on constitutional matters. As Justice Dixon once remarked, "the Constitution is a political document". George consistently neglects to advise his readers that he comes from a particular political perspective. It seems misleading to me.

I should add that in registering this point of view I sometimes agree with what he has to say (although his position on the need for a constitutional Bill of Rights is very poorly thought through - statutes can be amended and often are when it is politically expedient - and the UK and NZ experience is no guide to the way our our politicians will behave).

Thankyou for replying.

I agree with your last clarification and note that George often writes in a highly political way - for a lawyer purporting to argue legal issues.
