Moral outrage is not going to stop the next Indigenous child from being abused unless we can get to the cause.

ChrisC - This is what I'm trying to ascertain, are we ALL Australians ALL the time, or just when it suits us to be?

I'm thinking of what would happen if someone rang DOCS and said that my kids were being sexually abused. They would be taken away, examined etc., and it would be our (parents) reponsibility to prove we were innocent. What would happen if that was done in the Koori settlement regarding the alleged claims of sexual abuse?

It is indiginous culture for children to be promised to elders as "wives" and for those elders to cosumate that marriage before 14. That means rale of a reluctant child. And the courts will do nothing because of "Cultural sensitivity". It is time the police and courts got serious about stopping this problem.
Also as far as the sexual abuse of little children goes, we have to stop the abuse of alcohol and petrol sniffing in these communities. Why not pay the women each week with food and clothing vouchers instead of paying the men money which they spend on alcohol.
Instead of removing the children from the community try removeing the men who are the offenders.

There is a 'culture'of alcoholism that is pervading both the black and white people of Australia and it is most evident in the young ones who seem to be addicted at a very young age.
It was not a culture in years gone by, there was an age restriction and young people were not brain washed with the wonders of how to get your kicks out of a bottle.. or a pill..or a needle.
The truth is that the young cannot handle it, their brains are too immature to recognise the harm that is being done to their bodies and their minds. All they know is that they are having a great time and wow! what a hangover.
What they fail to see is that having a really good time shouldn't depend on artificial dependencies, when it does, they are cheating themselves.
And they are being cheated by those who should be responsible for their safety and their well being.
