Too chicken to realise Opal’s a gem : Comments

By Graham Ring, published 7/4/2006

Tony Abbott could be saving taxpayers money and saving lives by rolling out Opal, the unsniffable fuel, across central Australia. So why isn't he?

I would imagine that not all Aboriginal communities are having these problems with the young people, what do the successful communities do to train or keep their young from such harm?
The terrible circle of self damage and child abuse must be stopped and if it takes tough measures to stop it, put them in effect now.
Otherwise the future generations will be at just as much risk as the present generation.
There has been millions of words and millions of dollars spent on this problem with no results.
It is such an awful waste of people.

This topic is sure to come public debate again soon. But the simple solution to fixing this situation (along with other similar situations like unemployment) is to stop giving "hand-outs" away. Centerlink payments should cease. Australia is turning into a wellfare state and the more people that take government hand-outs the less likely we are to prosper as a nation and the powers that be (who already have too much power and control over our lives) will do as they please. In affect they will literally own us.

The Australian Indigenous Community should realise that these payments are a way of keeping them quiet, its the governments way of saying they are doing something for them. When in actual fact it is a bandaid fix and a means of control. QUESTION - How many indigenous people spend a large majority of their centerlink money on booze, cigarettes and petrol? ANSWER - Too many. And why dosen't the government care? Because these three things are quite probably the highest taxed consumer goods in the country.
