Two-tier university system - Plain wrong on generalist principles : Comments

Peter Coaldrake argues a two-tier system will be bad for universities, students and the country as a whole.

Surely one of the problems raised by having a system Melbourne is proposing is that it would add extra time to say Medical courses? I wouldn't want this as we currently (and in the future) need more doctors.

Seeing as nobody seems to want to chat with you sparky, I'll comment on your post!!

If a medical course takes a bit longer, that’s not necessarily a bad thing- even considering our nationwide shortages, that is if the extended training is better for the patient in the long-term. Peter does note that in relation to medicine, the US education system has been successful (well, more so than in other areas).

As a student (although only in Arts) I like the idea of ‘specialist’ universities, I believe it would allow students to engage with a greater number of people studying the same topics.
