It is great to see that Des Moore has drawn the obvious links between private enterprise, taxation, welfare, and IR. Finally an article that addresses all of the above-now can those in this forum who constantly ignore the links between these issues please address Mr.Moore's assertions.

There is absolutely no reason why bipartisan support should not be given for a reduction of income tax across the board, and a complete restructuring of income taxation bands. Contrary to popular belief the budget surplus need not be drastically harmed in pursuit of this. Rather cuts to bureaucratic ranks, and welfare budgets should be considered. In addition GST revenue created by higher commodity prices should also not be forgotten.

Then the surplus can at least in part be used to fund programmes (such as work for the dole) that force those who don't work (but can) back into a routine. In addition vocational training can then be funded or individuals can be directed to the labour force. Thereby we eliminate any excuses for those individuals who prefer to be dead weights in the community.

Des Moore is telling the ALP how it can once again become relevant and competetive. I hope they are listening
